I know we can't totally eliminate plastic from our everyday life, but we certainly can reduce our use. To do that, have yourself make a choice; if you can carry the groceries, make a choice of refusing a shopping bag. I do that, and it's certainly made the shopkeeper ask other customers if they want a shopping bag instead of assuming they do.
