Both Goat Suede and Cow Split are very versatile and widely used leathers, Goat Suede being a premium and luxury leather used in both garments and accessories. And cow Split being a more rough and tough Leather.
Cow split is the underside of cow hide, brushed up. Rougher nap, stiffer, stronger. Around 20-30% cheaper than goat suede. It holds weight, which is why almost every “suede” backpack you’ve seen is actually made from this. But good cow split looks beautiful, one of our most used types of Leather after Sheep Nappa.
Goat suede is the real thing. Velvety nap. Drapes. Breathes. Right for blazers, western shirts, soft outerwear. But it rips under load, so never put it on an item that will carry load,
Both have a place in production. The mistake is paying for one and getting the other.
