The final solar eclipse of 2025 will take place on September 21, just a day before the September equinox. This will be a partial solar eclipse, visible across New Zealand, Antarctica, and parts of the South Pacific.
Although it wonāt be a total eclipse, it will be a striking one ā with the moon covering up to 86% of the sun. The clearest views are expected in southern New Zealand, several Antarctic research bases, and select Pacific islands.
What makes this event special is its timing: it happens right before the equinox, the point when the sun crosses the celestial equator, ushering in spring in the Southern Hemisphere and autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.
