This carousel is just five honest (negative) truths I’ve learned while building an independent clothing brand from scratch. Next week we will do some positive truths we have found along the way.

Running a small clothing brand is honestly one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

People see the Instagram posts and new drops, but behind every small business is stress, risk, self-doubt, quiet months, constant learning and a lot of work nobody sees.

If you’re building your own brand, startup, clothing company or creative business right now — you’re definitely not alone.

What is your kind of therapy?

For some, perhaps this is all that is needed, fresh air, nature, adrenaline, and four wheels underneath you. Whether it’s sunny or cloudy, steep or flat, it’s rare to see someone step off a skateboard without a smile on their face. We don’t see enough of this in Norway, whatever you find peace doing, let us know in the comments 🏔️🌅🤘🏻

Laybac HQ has come a long way since the beginning. What started as an empty concrete garage has become a space where our clothing brand has developed and taken shape. Being people who love to skateboard and surf, this naturally influences the way our clothes look and feel, and it is great to have somewhere that all of those interests can come together under one roof 🙌🏻

Cruising down empty roads on longboards is just one of the things we are looking forward to doing this summer 🌅

In norway, we get the sun until almost midnight, which means empty roads and lots of time to get outdoors, what would you do if you only have 4 hours of darkness a day? Let us know in the comments 🤙🏼

It’s hard not to imprint too much on your children.

For me, I grew up skateboarding, and they are some of my best memories. And I want the next generation to enjoy the things that I did when I was young!

Whether it’s skating, surfing, hiking, or any other activity that gets your blood pumping, we love to promote getting outside and enjoying the things that keep us young 🌅

What are you getting your kids into? Let us know in the comments 🙌🏻

New here?
Thought it was time for a little introduction👋

we’re the people behind laybac — a small brand inspired by surf, skate, norwegian nature and slower living.

We are husband and wife, who met in portugal, surrounded by the ocean, surf, skate, and the creative living that comes with this lifestyle.

We moved together to norway, and found it hard to find the clothing that matched our lifestyle. We wanted surf and skate style clothing, but we didnt want the palm trees and beaches that you often on these clothes. We wanted pieces inspired by colder places; oversized tees, relaxed fits, heavier fabrics, and clothing that felt just as natural by the fjords and mountains as by the ocean.

We are really happy to have you here, whether you just found us or have been following for a while 🤍

Who are we and wtf are we doing?

Well, we are a clothing brand based on a small island in western Norway. Our designs are heavily influenced by the Norwegian outdoors, cold climate vibes, and we ourselves are skaters and surfers, so naturally our clothes look and feel that way 🤙🏼

We love anything outdoors, sustainability, staying stoked, and want to promote that through our clothing. Nice to meet you, say hello in the comments 🙌

Look at this transformation.

From starting with an empty garage on an island in Norway, we are so stoked to see how far we have come, and the community we belong to 🙌🏻 our laybac HQ is really starting to take shape, we still have no idea what we want it to be… a mockup store, a showroom, just a fun place to hang, who knows.

One thing is clear, our mission has not changed. We want to create surf and skate influenced clothing, focusing on the cold climate of Norway as inspiration, for those who love to be outdoors 🏔️🌅🫶🏼

Let us know what you think of our journey so far in the comments 🤛🏻

We get a really strong sense that people are changing their habits. We used to live for late nights at weekends, now we want to seize the day, get up and get active, search and explore.

This is a natural part of Norwegian culture, but even in Norway, the places that were once considered remote are now popular destinations for the adventurous and curious souls. A country where no one would think twice about surfing there is now becoming a global hotspot internationally.

And we are here for it, this is a modern movement we can get behind 🏔️🌅

Do you notice the change? What do you think is pushing us in this direction? Let us know in the comments 🤙🏻

There is something happening with skating right now…

We see more and more 30 year olds (or older) picking up their boards again, or getting into skating for the first time. Whether that is just cruising down the road, surf skating, or full on shredding, it feels like skating is back in a big way.

Maybe it is the nostalgia, or the freedom you experience when you do it, or the style that comes with it. Whatever it is, we are loving what we see!

How long have you been skating, and when did you begin? Drop a comment and let us know 🙌🏻
