International worker's day, also known as May day or international Labour day, is celebrated on May 1, every year, to appreciate the contribution of workers in society.

More than 160 countries celebrate May day on May 1, while others celebrate in other months of the year.

The roots of today are traced back to the 1886 Haymarket rïôt, when workers from Chicago demanded/prötéstëd for an eighth-hour workday, led to general strike.

The prøtêst led to a rîōt between workers and police after someone threw a bömb at the police, in Haymarket.

This was seen as hindrance to the movement, but, May 1 has been marked, since then, to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of workers' and labours' movement.
