It's April and I hope and wish that this new month will be filled with many moments of joy for all of us. 😊⁠

I have some sewing projects planned that I am really looking forward to start on - especially now that the weather is beginning to look a lot more like Spring. 🌷⁠

One more thing that I am very much looking forward to, is to stock my online fabric store with fabrics that are now on their way from my supplier in Lithuania.⁠
Times are difficult right now, so I hope and cross my fingers that they won't get stuck at a closed border along their way. 😅🤞⁠

I am a bit late to start on the prompts for , but I really like the list of prompts so here goes... first prompt is Story...

The story behind my brand name, Nefermiw Design, begins about 20 years ago when I studied egyptology at the University of Copenhagen. I was in my early 20s and I needed a unique name to use online in chat rooms and forums. Since I love cats I naturally thought of a name with the word cat in it, but used the ancient Egyptian word miw together with the ancient Egyptian word for good/beautiful /kind which is nfr (pronounced nefer).

I have been using the name Nefermiw online ever since then, so it felt natural for me to also use it for my business that I started a year ago. 🙂

You can see in the first picture how it is written in Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs. The next two pictures show how the words Nefer and Cat are referenced in the Middle Egyptian dictionary by Raymond O. Faulkner.

New fabric designs!

I have made some coordinating designs for my Dino Roar fabric design collection. 🦖🦕
There are two colourways - each with a hero print and two coordinating prints.

I have ordered the fabrics on eco-friendly cotton jersey, and will post pictures of the fabrics when they arrive. 😁

Sneak peek at my latest design project. 🙂

As you can se, I am removing stitching sewn on an overlock/serger and it is tedious work, but I wasn't pleased with how the neckline looked, so it is better to put in the extra work now than to be annoyed every time I would look at the shirt. 👀

Do you remove overlock/serge stitching or do you turn a blind eye if the garment is functional, but not how you envisioned it?

I hope to reveal my finished project soon.🦖

My 3-year old boy was over-the-moon happy with his new shirt that I made for him. 🌚🌟🌕⭐😃.

I made a little drawing to celebrate that September has arrived. ❤️ This means Autumn is coming with cool winds and an amazing shift in the colours on trees and bushes. 🍃🍂🍁.
I added a tiny spider and a web because I have been seeing them out and about more lately - they are really fascinating creatures. 🕷️🕸️.

I made my very own digital artist glove today!
😁.
I drew the outline of my right hand on a piece of and traced it further onto some polyester jersey fabric with my black and white elephant design. Then I cut it out and glued the edges with fabric glue before sewing it on the serger/overlock.

It was fast and easy and I am quite happy with how it turned out. 😀.

'Tigers on green' is my entry for this week's Spoonflower design challenge. 🐅💚

The theme of the challenge is Feline Frenzy and since the tiger is my favourite feline, I wanted to feature this majestic big cat in my design. 😻

I have made a fabric design featuring the Japanese dog breed Shiba inu and the Japanese kanji for the word dog (inu) 犬. 🐕

This is my latest repeat pattern design which I call "neko". 🐱

I designed it for this weeks Spoonflower "Wonder Boy" Design Challenge which is about patterns for boys' clothing with designs missing in the mainstream department stores.

My design features the Japanese word for cat "neko" in the colours of the rainbow.

I have hand-lettered the word both in the kanji and hiragana script using a Tombow brush pen and then made it into vector in Adobe Illustrator.
