It’s been awhile since I posted a work because of my new job and I am trying to juggle that nicely with my side gigs of fashion works but here we go!

This is a work commissioned for . She passed me this gorgeous purple ruffle tiered cape and told me to do whatever with it. It was pretty tricky to play with but I came up with this toga shaped top that comes with a wrap around skirt with the excess at the side to create this assymmetrical silhouette that will flow very nicely when she performs with it. Can’t wait to see her performing in this soon!

Remember the younger days when you tried draping yourself in curtains or towels trying to look like a Greek goddess? Or is it just me?

Well, I finally got my hands on a used curtain that I can make that fantasy into a reality! What I love about this fabric is the stripes that run across the length and I always find it fascinating when you play and see the stripes clashing all over.

I was also thinking about gowns by Galliano and Westwood which had notches and folds to create unconventional silhouettes and just allowing the weight of the fabric takes its own shape.

Finally something out of a curtain! I recommend you to try!

Denim play is my next work deconstruction work! It’s been awhile since I played with denim but I thought why not since I received this old denim vest from a friend.

I always find it nerve wrecking to sew these guys down although having a proper sewing needle for denim but nonetheless they are quite fun to experiment with.

Basically I cut across the front and back seams and notched the excess to the front and pulled it back with a pink strap sewn to the neck. Finally I created ruffles with the excess I had and placed it at the front shoulder just because I just love ruffles lol!

This next series of works are very new to me because it all involves playing with ties that are not used anymore given by a friend.

I kept playing around thinking if it could form a dress but when I starting pinning and playing on one side of the shoulder, I thought wouldn’t be interesting if they turn into a brooch or fascinator. You can see that it always starts crazy at first as seen from the first work, before I start toning things down to make it more easily palatable.

If you have ties that you think are no longer cool, I urge you to try this, it’ll be fun! I will be experimenting on newer things next time so keep an eye on that too!

They always say the party is happening at the back, and so is this next work!

A simple dress with that comes with a circular monogram patterns with a black lining. I basically just switched the back to the front and pulled all the excess fabric back and notched at few areas to create a symmetrical bustle like effect and letting the excess lining fall underneath all the drapes, creating this sleeveless deconstructed vest.

What makes this work interesting is to see how monogram patterns clash when different angles are applied to the garment.

Next up is this deconstruction work that was from a long kimono inspired robe which was passed to me by .

In contrast to the first work, I wanted this one to look soft and fluid but giving more life from its first construction. I kept playing with drapes asymmetrically across the torso and continuously try to connect them together. I removed one sleeve, attached it back on the neck and twirl it around the shoulder to create a small cape like detail. The other sleeve and the running back panels were sewn with horsehair braid at the seam to give more bounce and shape when notched together.

My first work for involves working with two men’s blazers with contrasting colours to create a heavy, masculine and powerful garment, something that makes you feel strong when wearing.

This work is also a reference to the design I played with when I took the clo-3D course with .tc when I played with a jacket pattern. I wanted to apply that here, experimenting volumes and shapes by tearing seams and adding the second jacket on top.

It’s Pinkdot day today so I am posting this work to add a little pink in your feed!
fatt approached me few weeks ago and wanted an orchid mantis inspired look for Pinkdot so we dived in straight into it. She passed me few of her pink and white garments and I started my work from there.

One garment that stood out from her was this silky Vietnamese Ao Dài inspired dress(as shown on the last photo). I detached the sleeves, unpicked the back panels and kept playing with the drapings on on the sides to understand how the fabric behaves.

I also played with a pu leather skirt and cut the panels up, creating peplum-like panels for her back hip. At the back, I added a jacket on reverse and gathered them to the middle and stitching the sleeves to the padded centre back and leaving the hem of jacket stick out like a mantis exoskeleton.

To top it off, I cut off shapes of petals and the eyes, sprayed them in pink ombré tones and stitch it up with bands to create more organic accents to the outfit.

Definitely a fun work to do and .fatt is such a joy to work with! Check out her profile to see more of her amazing looks!

It has been awhile since I posted a work because of multiple projects on hand but let’s go with this one.

It was just a simple work playing with pleats and folds and placing them where I feel like at that moment without any plan or direction in mind as to what I want to achieve and let the character of fabric speak for itself.

I just let it flow and left the edges raw too, something that I should be comfortable with.

I have bigger deconstruction projects that I’m working with and I can’t wait to show you guys when it’s all ready so keep a look out!

Working with jersey has always been a love hate relationship for me. My next work is revisiting that relationship and trying to understand it better.

This Emilio Pucci-esque print long dress was bought off the sales rack and a small portion was used to make a mask. I thought that it would be nice to experiment the remaining portion of the dress and create a blouse that drapes asymmetrically from the shoulder and drops at the back with a cape.

Sometimes it’s very interesting to see garments with quirky prints sold in thrift stores.

What I did to this yellow checkered dress was reversing the back to the front, cut the lower half and attached it to the back and let the ruffle drape naturally. I also slit the sleeve and added an inverted pleat to the front as an ornament.

A simple deconstructed work to give this old dress a fresh look!

My next work plays with two different garments: a dress that is made from lace and the other from brocade.

The stiffness of the brocade allows me to experiment with folds and drapes at the bust area and observing how the prints overlay each other.

In contrast, the back is cascaded with asymmetrical hem with couple of pleats to create depth and movement from the lace of the other dress.
