These beaded babies were a long long time in the making, and not without some internal conflict from the start (probably still ongoing).
Many have asked why I do not add bling and bead the yarncraft accessories, and my longstanding standard response was: "For durability, the accessories need to withstand wash and wear, people generally do not want to handwash, many just want to throw their textile-based wearable into the washing machine.
Also, mixing materials will affect aftersales repair, as well as end-of-life recycling and upcycling processing. I still hold myself responsible for the products I put out into the world with the product-lifetime repair guarantee."
I'll spare you the various (occasionally aggressive) responses to this user-oriented and product-lifecycle-considered design decision.
So why start beading again after a decade of avoidance?
It was not any breaking point that finally made beading happen, but rather an epiphany that the process itself was a different kind of slow, steady meditating on why making and caring for fragile things is meaningful.
(Now that's a whole other philosophical conversation!)
Of course, the different semi-precious stones, branded crystals, pearls, recycled glass, precious woods, and other random blingy bits from the personal hoard finally get to see light of day after years of being hidden away.
It was quite a wondrous time pairing the various stones with the recycled denim, recycled silk, Tencel and recycled cotton shoelace yarns in a new material experiment of sorts, trying to find new harmonies/compositions.
Then came some encouragement from the lovely Clara of to enable me to release these (there are only 11 pieces for now) into the big bad world, so do look for them instore at #01-09 Claymore Connect. (Congrats Nyana Nyana on the new location!)
BTW, celebrates its 7th Anniversary and new store opening this weekend 31st Jan, we'll be there, hope to see you too!
