Central Equatoria warns of legal action over illegal renaming of places in Juba
The Central Equatoria State government has warned it will take legal action against individuals and institutions involved in the unauthorized renaming of places in Juba.
In a directive issued by the Office of the Deputy Governor, authorities ordered an immediate halt to the practice, citing concerns over the distortion of the state’s history and identity.
The circular stated that villages, streets, rivers, and other landmarks must retain their original and officially recognized names. All entities, including government institutions, NGOs, private companies, and the media, have been instructed to stop using altered names in any official processes or documentation.
Officials warned that anyone found assigning new names to established places will face legal consequences, as the government moves to preserve cultural and historical heritage.
