🕊️ Tribute to Uncle Bona Malwal Madut Ring

We at Twic Media Reports are deeply saddened by the passing of Uncle Bona Malwal Madut Ring, a pioneer veteran journalist, statesman, author, and one of the most enduring voices in South Sudan’s history.
From his early days as an Information Officer in Wau (1951–1961) to joining the Sudan Daily’s editorial board in 1961, Uncle Bona’s life was defined by truth and service. As Editor-in-Chief of The Vigilant, the mouthpiece of the Southern Front, he boldly exposed injustices at a time when truth itself was dangerous.
His courage led him to found and lead iconic publications like Sudanow Magazine, The Sudan Times, and the Sudan Democratic Gazette, shaping generations of journalists across Sudan and South Sudan.
Beyond journalism, he was a Senior Research Fellow at Columbia University and later at Oxford University, where he co-founded the Sudanese Programme, promoting understanding between the two Sudans.
His 2015 book, “Sudan and South Sudan: From One to Two,” remains a timeless reflection of his lifelong advocacy for peace and self-determination.
To us at Twic Media Reports, Uncle Bona was more than a legend, he was a mentor and a friend. His kindness, humility, and wisdom inspired our team and countless others who dream of using media to tell our nation’s story with courage.
Uncle Bona’s legacy will forever live in the hearts of journalists and patriots who believe, as he did, that words can shape a nation.
