I’ve been unintentionally offline for about 10 days as I prepared to depart for Thailand, where I’ll be working for the next few months.

You’ll definitely still see knitting here, and my pattern release for the Arcadia Hat is still coming!

Meanwhile I’ve passed all the COVID requirements to transit through Amsterdam and be set free in Bangkok. And imagine, my first full weekend here, there is a cultural festival a few minutes walk from my abode, featuring all kinds of gorgeous regional textiles.

I picked up a handwoven cotton scarf dyed with indigo, mango tree, ke tree, and another dye I missed, including batik and tie-dye techniques. It is so unique, I couldn’t leave it behind.

The other cloth selections are from Ning Bua Lumphu, not far from the border with Lao PDR. They’re also cotton. I haven’t sprung for Thai silk yet. Even at an outdoor festival, it is not inexpensive, about $100/meter. The cotton was more like $14/meter, which seems like a pittance for these unique combinations of ikat and solid warp designs.

It’s still coming! The Arcadia Hat pattern will be out by this weekend!

I’m excited about this pattern because it is so fun to knit. The bubble motif is one of my favorite low-effort, high-results motifs. And the fretwork gives such a unique, graphic look.

I don’t know why I’m having some gauge snafus - I’ve been measuring the stitch gauge and the FO, but they aren’t lining up! So I want to make sure it is perfect before I release it.

Yay! The Arcadia Hat pattern is almost here! I lucked out recently and got a really nice sunset shot from my yard that matched my colors really nicely. This is the slouchier version of the hat with more rows of bubble motif.

It will be on Ravelry at the end of this week! There will be a 20% discount for those entering the code ARCADIAHAT until the end of the day on February 14!

I could honestly do bubbles forever and the fretwork was a fun diversion, still only working one color at a time. So impress your friends and family without having to learn a whole new skill if you haven’t done color work before!

The hat is a super fun knit that is easier than it looks - two colors, but worked only one color at a time. It requires two colors of 270yd/100g yarn [heavy sport or light DK]. One skein of each will get you both accessories!

What is your favorite palate cleanser? Here is the hat I started this weekend, and I’m super excited about it! I think I’m gonna do this with all of my self-striping yarn!

What are you up to today?

This summarizes my Sunday plan - a nice palate-cleanser in the form of a simple DK-weight beanie, and piles of cats on the electric throw blanket. With a nice strong milky coffee thrown in.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Michele’s yarn - this is her Merino 3-ply. It is round and bouncy and delightful. I recommend you get some ASAP!!!

I’m also wearing a sweater I’m focused on transitioning into a pattern. March is my anticipated release date - it will be only met second graded pattern, so wish me luck!!!

What is your latest FO?

I just cast off (but haven’t blocked…) my Accidental Arcadia Slouch, in which I got so excited about bubbles that I just kept going! The Arcadia Hat pattern has only two bubble repeats at top and bottom, unlike the Arcadia Cowl. But this one will be a little more generous.

The cowl is out! And there’s still time to make someone you love (including yourself) a chic Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day or I Just Love Myself Day gift 💝

The hat pattern is being tested now, and will be released o/a February 10th. So if you’re a super dedicated knitter, you can complete the set by Feb 14th!

But you know what, there is no rush. Take it easy and enjoy yourself, because this is a super fun knit that looks complicated but really isn’t.

When Booch isn’t watching Vera Season 11, he’s snuggling under secret knitting.

He’s pretty good company. We’ve started watching videos for cats and I’m not sure who is more entertained. But now he also likes to get all up close and personal with Vera and my keyboard.

How’s the weather? Today I am awkwardly cuddled up in my new cowl INSIDE MY HOUSE. Because it was NEGATIVE 16F outside this morning! And my old house is basically porous. So I’m layering up, turning on the electric throw, and putting two warm cats on top of me.
