Specs & Stache

Specs & Stache Specs & Stache is a brand established in Edmonton, AB, Canada that is inspired by the timeless past.

Meaningful stories and ideas have the power to leave a deep impression on us. It can influence people across generations while setting the foundation for modern ideas to blossom. This quality of timelessness is what inspires us at Specs & Stache. We believe that fashion not only serves as a highly functional platform for individual expression, but also provides an invaluable link between the past,

present, and future. Thus, the company aspires to develop products that reflect the deeper history, meaning, and story behind each piece by taking inspiration and exploring the timeless qualities and ideas of vintage Americana, the English countryside, and the café lifestyle while combining contemporary design, functionality, and expression. Fashion, like coffee and tea, is a way of life, which along with an emphasis on exploring and sharing inspirational ideas, represent the brand's core philosophy. Established in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a city that has a history in manufacturing denim garments and is also the birthplace of a once well known Canadian denim company established in the early 1900s. Situated near the heart of the beautiful province of Alberta we are very fortunate to be surrounded by many national parks providing us with lush and breathtaking natural sceneries, which in turn inspire us to always consider incorporating elements of nature to our designs and creating products that are suitable for the exploration of the great outdoors. As cafés and teahouses provide a setting for discovery and inspiration, nature and natural landscapes also play a similar role while providing a much larger space for us to play, explore, and connect with the bigger picture of art and life.

Stay dry with Specs & Stache's water-resistant Waxed Twill Anorak!

Originally made for the purpose of hunting and kayaking in the Arctic, the anorak is now favoured by those who spend a lot of time outdoors, such as hikers and climbers. Due to the anorak’s practicality, it inevitably led to its evolution into a versatile yet stylish outer garment, gaining popularity even amongst the non-polar inclined.

Inspired by the garments worn by soldiers in WWII, we designed a water-resistant anorak using heavyweight waxed cotton twill fabric that is durable and has the potential to develop a beautiful patina that is unique to each piece as the garment ages.

SPECS & STACHE Olive Varsity Jacket

The varsity jacket can be traced back to the early days of university sports teams. Since its introduction, the varsity jacket has gained wide acceptance amongst its audience and serves as a canvas for fashion brands today to express their message and display their designs. After nearly a century, the silhouette of the varsity jacket remains timeless and unchanged and is still a practical yet stylish garment for everyday wear.

Inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Canadian wilderness, we created a varsity jacket that incorporates three different shades of green that encapsulate the various shades found in lush forest landscapes.

SPECS & STACHE Camouflage Shooting Jacket

The shooting jacket, which started out as the Norfolk jacket in the 1800s, was designed so that the wearers could raise their arms comfortably without binding at the elbows. The design of the jacket became popular amongst the hunting community and influenced the uniforms of the British military. As the shooting jacket evolved, the silhouette of the garment became very similar to that of the sport coat with several unique features; a shoulder patch to withstand the recoil of a rifle, elbow patches for durability, collar tab to fasten collar for extra warmth, and shoulder pleats for extra mobility in the arms.

Captivated by the utilitarian design and unique features of the shooting jacket it inspired us to design a shooting jacket of our own while incorporating another element with a rich history in the British military; the DPM camouflage pattern. The traditional shooting jackets were mostly made with tweed, but we decided to change things up by constructing the jacket with heavyweight cotton twill and our interpretation of the DPM camouflage pattern.

SPECS & STACHE Type II Patch Pocket Denim Jacket

The type II denim jacket silhouette was first introduced in the early 1950s and only lasted until the early 1960s when the trucker denim jacket (the style seen most often today) was introduced. During that time, it became very popular amongst farmers and labour workers, and eventually rose in popularity amongst cowboys as well. This style of jacket became known as the ultimate worker jacket for cowboys and farmers.

Fascinated by the unique features (from the front pleats to the style of pockets) found on the 1950s denim jacket design we were inspired to create a jacket constructed with 14 oz selvedge denim that captures the essence of the traditional design while incorporating contemporary elements to the piece.

The baseball cap has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the mid-19th century when it was first worn by baseball players. At the time, players wore straw hats or flat caps, but these proved too cumbersome, as they would easily fall off during games or obstruct the player's vision. In 1860, however, the Brooklyn Excelsiors team introduced a cap with a stiff visor that could be adjusted to fit snugly on a player's head. This design soon caught on with other teams and fans, and by the turn of the century, baseball caps had become a ubiquitous part of American fashion. Today the baseball cap is not only a practical accessory for athletes but also an iconic symbol of American sport and style worldwide. The popularity of this simple yet elegant piece of headwear is emblematic of its enduring appeal through generations of sports lovers and fashion enthusiasts alike.

The history and invention of the baseball cap in Japan dates back to the 1930s when American influence on Japanese culture was at its peak. It was during this time that baseball became a popular sport in Japan, and with it came the introduction of the iconic baseball cap. Unlike the traditional round hats worn by Japanese athletes, baseball caps had a distinct visor which provided protection from the sun's harsh rays. Today, the baseball cap has become an integral part of Japanese fashion, with various styles, colors and designs available for purchase. From sports teams to cultural emblems, these caps serve not only as practical headwear but also as a symbol of identity and belonging within Japan's rich cultural landscape.
