Have you ever wanted to "see" the weather as a piece of art? 🧐 The humble temperature blanket is one of the most popular projects in the fiber arts world for a reason. By assigning a color to every temperature range and working one row a day, you create a beautiful, physical record of a whole year. 🧢✨

But did you know these blankets are also being used as powerful tools in climate science? 🌎 Groups like the "Tempestry Project" use historical data to show how our local temperatures have changed over the decades. When you compare a blanket from fifty years ago to one from today, the story of our changing planet is written right there in the yarn. It turns abstract data into something you can hold, feel, and wrap around yourself. ❀️πŸ’ͺ

I want to know if anyone in this group is currently working on a temperature project. 🌑️ Are you sticking to traditional rainbows, or are you trying something unique with blues, greens, or even metallics? Share your progress photos and your color charts in the comments below. Let us see the beautiful data you are creating. πŸ‘‡πŸ§Ά

Did you know that many of Aretha Franklin’s most legendary stage outfits were actually handmade by the Queen herself? 🧢🌟

Aretha’s history with crochet is a beautiful story of community. She was taught the craft by her neighbors, specifically a woman named Mrs. Pitman, who shared the joy of the stitch with her. One of her absolute favorites was the pineapple stitch, an intricate and advanced motif that creates a delicate, floral-like pattern. 🍍✨

What is even more incredible is that she took her skills to the world stage. Those stunning crochet outfits you see in her vintage photos were often pieces she meticulously crafted by hand while traveling between shows. She once described the hobby as the "subtle maneuvering of stitches," and it was her favorite way to find peace and relaxation during her busy life. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’œ

Aretha proved that you can be a global icon and still find time to nurture your soul with a ball of yarn. She literally wore her own handmade art while changing the world of music! πŸ‘‘πŸŽΌ

Have you ever tried the pineapple stitch or made your own clothes? I would love to hear your stories in the comments! πŸ‘‡πŸ§Ά

Hey everyone! 🌈✨

Usually, you will find me working with daintier, thinner yarns and those tiny hooks. Weight 4 yarn is basically my limit! But lately, my yarn shelf was starting to look a bit crowded, and I realized I had collected quite a few skeins of Caron Chunky Cakes in the Rainbow Jellys colorway over the last year. Since I am getting ready to reorganize my entire workspace, I decided it was time for a major stash-busting mission! 🧢πŸ”₯

This project was definitely a workout for my arms because that chunky yarn is no joke. I didn’t use a pattern and freehanded the entire project. I used an 8mm hook for the main body and the squares, then switched down to a 7mm hook for the ribbing and pockets. While I absolutely love the Caron brand, these specific skeins were a bit inconsistent with their weight and color saturation, so I knew I couldn't sell a finished piece made from them. Instead, I decided to treat myself to a brand new "me-made" cardigan! πŸ’–

I am officially calling this my "Blanket Cardigan" because wearing it out and about feels exactly like being wrapped up in a cozy quilt. I even added five belt loops and a matching belt to give it some structure. I still have one more pocket to attach, but I am already obsessed with it! ☁️

I am a bit of a chameleon when it comes to style. One day, I am all about classic black and modern monochrome looks; the next day, I am feeling like a total rainbow queen! ✌️🌈 If a color or a style speaks to me, I have to go with it. Even though I am happy to be going back to my thinner yarns now that this is finished, I am so glad I gave this chunky rainbow project a chance.

What about you? Are you a fan of the quick, chunky projects, or do you prefer the delicate details of thinner yarn? Let me know in the comments! πŸ‘‡βœ¨

Check out this cozy new creation 🧢

I just finished this beautiful sweater for my cousin, and I am absolutely in love with how it turned out.

I used Lion Brand Landscapes yarn in the stunning Desert Spring colorway. These vibrant oranges, teals, and magentas create a warm, earthy vibe that is perfect for any season. To achieve that thick, squishy texture, I worked with a 6mm hook and used a total of 10.5 skeins.

The design features vertical ribbing, which gives it a classic look and a wonderful drape. It is an adult size medium or large and is intended to be a bit oversized for that ultimate comfy feeling.

What do you think of these colors? Let me know in the comments. If you enjoy following my crochet journey, please take a moment to like and follow my page. ✨

New project alert! 🧢✨

I am starting the Sundrop Dress by iriecchi and I could not be more excited. I love the retro look of this design and I think it is going to be a showstopper! β˜€οΈ

The color palette I chose for this piece is inspired by Trixie and Katya and is a mix of white, light pink, magenta, red, and maroon; which gives it such a fun and modern twist. πŸ’–πŸŒˆ Stay tuned for lots of updates as I bring this beauty to life!

For this garment, I am using SMC Catania yarn. This is a high quality Sport weight cotton yarn, also known as a Fine number two weight. To get the perfect stitch definition and drape for this dress, I am using a 3 mm crochet hook.

I estimate that this project will take approximately 60 hours or more to complete. It is definitely a labor of love, and my goal is to have it finished and ready to wear by my birthday in November! πŸŽ‚

Thank you for always supporting my creative journey here at The Violet Stitch! πŸ’œπŸ™Œ

One of my absolute favorite tools when crocheting or knitting! 🧢✨

I usually pull from the center of the skein or waffle. When I need to do an outer pull, this yarn holder makes it 100 times easier. It has a strong magnet at the top to hold the piece that holds the yarn. It actually floats due to the magnet and it never catches the yarn!

I highly recommend one of these if you use the outer end method often. You can find this specific one by searching for the brand GROWLING on Amazon. There are also many beautiful handmade versions available on Etsy if you search for a magnetic floating yarn holder. πŸ§ΆπŸ’œ
