As Mel and I chip away at launching our common sewing community I want to give you sneak peeks at what you will work with.

Each month you will have any time access to:
One basic sewing skill
One classic tailoring technique
One capsule garment
Endless ‘studio’ tutorials where I invite you to watch me upcycle second life garments, alter clothes, and make new pieces.

This is the pattern I am fine tuning for release in capsule 1. Takes 3/4 yard of fabric. Perfect for recycling fabric. Lots to learn in this practice.

Lovely Bella the drift racer, her Etsy dress and the perfect color match for her CARRRRR. Her mom - dear friend - found her the gown but it came in 5” too small and she had a prom to go to.

This is my favorite shirt. It is from a tiny scrap of silky Japanese woven. I wear it to shreds.
Drafted it from my absolute favorite Vince shirt. It was in rust knit. I wore it to shreds.
This pattern just went off to the graphics designer to digitize.
When you join our common sewing movement, you will (capsule 1) learn to sew straight lines, make cloth napkins, learn to hem ANYTHING, and make this perfect little shirt.
There will be 6 capsules. Each has:
Basic skill lesson
1 classic alteration skill
1 capsule garment

Hello beautiful friends. Hey, I am an Asheville resident and I have an inspiration for something that could be really good for the folks here in my town. I haven’t connected with you in way too long. Hello. I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of fall and thriving in all ways!

I am thinking we get those who have suffered loss covered in our love. I haven’t really worked this out - I can be a speak first details next kinda lady.

Thinking we cut up our fabric stashes or old clothes. I will host sew a longs or post how-to videos on commonsewing.com.

I think all quilts should be sent directly to . I haven’t asked their permission yet - so hold on that idea. I will try to ask permission this week and confirm. If not, we can send them to my home and I will hand carry them.

Anyway, recovery in my town is going to take years. As we pull out of the wreckage we are entering the less terrifying and more tender phase of grieving and recovery. I think our hands and our hearts could cover folks around here beautifully.

If you don’t know how to sew, you can cut squares and send them to me. Or maybe someone else in our community. Figure that out later.

I am throwing this out there long before I am ready for us to take action. I am trying to guage if this type of volunteerism would speak to you. Chew on it. Throw a me in the comments if so. I will figure out more details and how-to’s and post all week.
