Atlanta History: Harper High School was known as one of the toughest high schools in the city of Atlanta. Many people that would tell you that parents would not let their children attend Harper and many students didn’t want to attend school at Harper. Primarily people feared Harper and labeled it as a bad school was because of Bankhead Courts housing projects ( not the HWY ) was zoned to Harper High. During the late 80s & early to mid 90s Bankhead Courts housing projects were known to be “rough”. The school did have a couple of shootings. The home of the Trojans from 1963-1995 is the high school of the great Judge Hatchett. A graduate myself of Harper High School I was apart of the last graduating class of 95 before the high school merged with Samuel Archer High becoming Harper-Archer in 1996. Many students from the Atlanta Public School system would visit the planetarium at Harper School.
