I’ve been dyeing in indigo for almost 14 years. I’ve used what I dyed to sew things like clothing, home decor, and dance costumes. Last year while in Senegal I purchased a piece of indigo-dyed fabric done by artisans there. A year and a half later I’ve finally used it to make this simple tie-on top with asymmetrical neckline and Baye Falle details. Even though asymmetry is defined as the absence of balance, I’m drawn to it.

In connection with .neworleans, Dr. Tim Mangin hosted a great Sabar drum and dance workshop led by Magatte Sow, Babacar Seck and Awa Diagne. We were there-three generations strong: grandson, daughters and grandmother, happy to be learning and connecting to our history and culture.
