The Welcome to Derry sign seen in the background when Matty is trying to get out of town … is on Main Street in Bangor.

When I saw Matty hitchhiking out of town on this road in Derry, Maine…I knew right where he was in Bangor — on Main Street near the Hampden town line.

In “It: Welcome to Derry,” one of the first scenes includes a line from “The Music Man” movie that says “Remember the Maine,” which is of course in reference to the U.S.S. Maine, a vessel that was blown up in Havana Harbor in 1898 during the Spanish-American War.
The ship’s shield and scrolls were recovered from the wreckage and were erected as a memorial in Derry (Bangor, Maine) in 1922.

Hello. I’m Nit-Noi Ricker, a Constant Reader who loves all things Stephen King, including the books by his wife, Tabitha, and sons, Owen, and Joe, who writes under the name Joe Hill.
With the new HBO series “It: Welcome to Derry” there are so many local references about Bangor (Derry, Maine) that I thought I’d create this page to talk about IT. Get it?
