Hello, friends. It has been a long time.

I have two announcements today:

One, I have just received my first hard-copy, in-print, real-actual-book of Icelandic Mittens in the mail, all the way from Iceland: 25 traditional mitten patterns based on samples from the Textile Museum in Blonduos, Iceland. Out of all the tech editing I have done, this is my first time seeing my name in print. I loved tech editing this book and working with the publishing team there, and it was such a treat to see the patterns morph through the writing and production process into a beautifully curated final product. I hear the Iceland version's first printing has almost sold out!

Which leads me to announcement two - I am resuming a low level of tech editing. Please let me know if you are interested (email is still the best way to contact me - note new email address rogueriverfiber at gmail). I won't be posting much on Instagram or social media, or otherwise marketing for my services. Word of mouth reference works well for me, and keeps me off the mind-melting interwebs and smartphones as much as possible.

I'm alive! As many of you know, I fell off the face of the planet for a while with a very difficult pregnancy. I'm happy to say that we made it and have a healthy baby girl who we are completely in love with, born at the beginning of July. We have quite a bit going on in my family right now and while I wholly intend to return to editing, I don't have a projected date. Just wanted to give you all an update and thank you all for the kind thoughts and encouragement!

I'm so excited about 's new Taos or Bust shawl! I have trouble with shawls slipping off my shoulders, so I usually just wear them like scarves, but this one has shoulder shaping to help it stay put. Cool, or what?

with ・・・ I just released my Taos or Bust Shawl on Ravelry, it is my favorite design so far! It uses my favorite colorwork, mosaic or slip stitch knitting, and has subtle shoulder shaping so it won't fall of your shoulders like most shawls.
I knit this sample using Linen Quill. It provides just the right amount of rustic warmth yet is still lightweight.

We love hand-painted yarns for socks, but often find that they cause a wild spiral of color. Which is cool, but sometimes you just want something different from candy-cane socks. I've been trying out different slipped-stitch patterns for breaking up the color, and I rather like this one.

Happy ! Want to know a secret about tech editing? It's tricky to check final measurements on items with a bias, such as an asymmetric triangle shawl (recognize 's challenge?). Several of us are working on ways to more accurately predict these measurements, although I'm still keeping in mind the need to do a quick approximation. Nobody wants me to break out the calculus for curved edges - it just takes too long. One of the better methods I've come up with requires hardly any math at all.
