I don’t have a clue what those directly impacted by the Silver Rail Elementary shooting tragedy must be experiencing. The families whose lives have been forever altered. The children, teachers, and community members. Like the rest of you, I’m fu***ng pi**ed, sad, and feel hopeless. It feels wrong to simply go about life as usual when so many are going through the worst possible thing.
For those who don’t know, we relocated to Bend, Oregon, a little over two years ago. The tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary hit far too close to home.
School shootings have always been gut-wrenching, but when it happens in your own backyard, it carries a different kind of weight. Hearing the sirens, driving past a school surrounded by caution tape, knowing that the people affected are part of your own community. It’s a heaviness that’s difficult to put into words.
When we first moved to Bend, we rented a house just a few blocks from Silver Rail. We often took our daughter to the park across the street. We drove and walked past the school nearly every day. Seeing places that were once such an ordinary part of our daily lives suddenly filling news headlines is surreal and heartbreaking.
As a mom of two daughters, including a four year old who is too quickly approaching kindergarten, this has brought up so many emotions. The overwhelming need to protect them and shelter them from all the ugly in the world. But also knowing I can’t and that they deserve to experience the world even though it’s horrifying.
There truly are no words for what happened at Silver Rail Elementary last week. And while I know it’s not nearly enough, I want to do whatever small part I can to support the families and community carrying this unimaginable pain. Trying my best to help out by donating proceeds to Silver Rail Elementary PTO and Moms Demand Action
I wish there were words that could make any of this an ounce better. I wish there were something we could do to take away even a tiny bit of the pain these families are experiencing. Action is needed and it’s well overdue.
I love you, Bend. 💜🤍
