Another project keeping me busy is recovering this chair for my younger granddaughter, Rayna. I got inspired by a picture of a patchwork chair I saw on Pinterest. I found fabrics I thought reflected her personality & let the creative juices flow!! I cut everything into strips then sewed them back together to create a uniquely Rayna piece of fabric. I figured out the pattern so the stripes are all in the same direction when I sewed it together. She loves her one of a kind chair & has already used it as we played family games! I truly feel blessed to have this talent that can make so many happy!!

My oldest sister passed away last night. She was an inspiration to me in my creative journey. Her talents far exceeded mine in creating something uniquely from her! Whenever we visited her, she loved to hear about all the dresses & memory quilts I’d be working on at the time. She marveled that I could create a purse or a robe from an old wedding dress. I will miss our visits but will always think of her as I’m creating my next memory!

Nothing like a new challenge!! My client asked me to create a clutch purse from her mother’s wedding dress. It’s always a little scary when I start deconstructing a wedding dress. This one has a huge skirt & train with a very ornately beaded bodice. The sleeves were constructed with lace but no beading. There are definitely details I would have loved to incorporate into this project but sometimes it can be too much! So I used the sleeve lace for the flap piece & used the lower part of the bodice for the front under the flap. After using some of the skirt to line the purse, I added some lace from her grandmother’s wedding dress as a binding. Creating something new from something old that will become a lasting treasure!!

Here’s another fun & unique memory quilt I created! When my mother-in-law & father-in-law passed away, I had saved several articles of their clothing. I showed them to my niece, Rachael, & asked her if she’d like me to make her a quilt. So she chose the items that made her think of her grandparents most & off I went!! I have 6 Easter eggs hidden throughout (I’ll point them out in the comments), I used an old string tie for microphone hardware, and freehand drew a silhouette of them dancing. She loved all the various references I placed to remind her of all her grandparents loved to do! Sparking memorable stories of memorable people!

Yes, I’m still sewing & creating!! This particular quilt was a long overdue project for my eldest son. He was about ready to give up on me ever creating something for him so it was truly a surprise at Christmas! His original request was he wanted his old concert t-shirts made into a design no one else would ever think to create. I was going to create a landscape quilt but realized I would fuss over it so much it would never get completed. Tough call but the right call!

Here’s a fun project I was asked to create! This client’s daughter was getting married & had no interest in Mom’s old wedding dress. Mom contacted me & asked if I was up to a challenge! She wondered if I could create a dressing robe from her old dress. Of course I accepted her challenge & here is the result! She gave it to her daughter with a frame containing a picture of her on her wedding day & space for a picture of her daughter in the robe along with a special saying! I feel privileged to play a part in such a memory!!!

Hello! Just wanted everyone to know I’m still busy at my sewing machine! The fall wedding season has been keeping me busy. From hems to bustles to little tweaks at the waist, I’ve been helping brides achieve the looks they envisioned when they found their dress!

Surprise!! It’s been quite a while since I lasted posted here. I was trying to make my time more fluid so the hubby & I could go on spontaneous road trips. Well….seems word of mouth has taken over & I’m busier than ever with wedding gowns (yes, plural), bridesmaids’ dresses, memory quilts, & a hodgepodge of other projects. I appreciate all of you & will try to share more!

Memories of a memorable lady…..
Close family friends (more like family than friends) brought me a bag full of casual shirts, cruise dresses, & pajamas worn by their mother. They wanted memory pillows but I had more than that in mind for them! I get bored with the 1 shirt = 1 pillow ideas so I started thinking about how I could make sure her children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren would appreciate all that she was to them. I already knew I was creating lap sized quilts for her son & daughter. I also knew that her lone great granddaughter wanted a bear made with the soft, fuzzy pajama pants. The rest of her descendants are boys so what could I create that would appeal to them & use all the clothing I had? Then it hit me….quilt blocks!!!
I love how these turned out & allows each to have those special pieces of clothing that brings special memories of her that are unique to each of them!
For her daughter, I created a cruise themed quilt as that was something they enjoyed doing together. And for her son, I created a cross as an homage to her belief in Jesus. It’s based on a pattern called The Old Rugged Cross which is also a hymn she sang in church!
Creating memories for a lifetime of memories! How could I NOT love what I do!!!

Spring may be taking its time getting here but things are heating up here now that prom season has arrived! This sparkly blue dress needed hemming, straps shortened, & some loose appliqués reinforced. A great dress to work on but the glitter!! Oh my that glitter gets everywhere!! After pinning up all the hems, I looked like I had sparkling dandruff!! Once I shook my head, brushed my scalp with my fingertips, & used a fine tooth comb, I finally quit sparkling!!!!
