I want to use Just Bricks in a rainbow style quilt that’s scrappy.

So each block would have many different fabrics in a similar color.

These are blues and blue-greens sewn into units.

Is there much difference if they’re arranged randomly or if the matching fabrics are kept near each other?

Matching fabrics close to each other. Not sure about the scrappy blacks.

Arranged randomly. It’s still not pleasing to my eye.

This is the idea but each block would have several different fabrics in one color. What do you think? Fair warning: I probably won’t take your advice. 😉

I’ve made four Just Bricks blocks and here are a few ways you can arrange them. Each block creates a diagonal line in the viewer’s eye so there’s plenty of movement no matter how you slice it. The bricks are cut 1.5” x 2.5” and are paired: a light or bright with a very dark so there’s adequate contrast. Part 4: Troubleshooting #1.

Part 1:

Cut rectangles 1.5” x 2.5”
Pair 1 dark with 1 light and join the long edges
Press toward the dark

Stay tuned for Part 2 when I’ll show how to make the block.

It’s been a rough summer and patchwork hasn’t been a priority. But I do have a strategy for getting a little something done during the difficult times. Click the link in my profile to watch the full video. I hope you are having a good day! I will be fine; I AM fine.

Last week I confessed to a workshop full of quilters that I end up tossing most of my bonus half-square triangles. 🫣 And then Laura G brought out patchwork made from HER bonus HSTs and thoroughly inspired all of us! She irons them to lightweight interfacing and they go together almost magically. She brought me some interfacing to try it for myself. What a sweetheart!!

Nine Patch Jambalaya is a quilt made from exchange blocks quite a few years back but it still packs a punch because of the diminutive patchwork. It’s much more manageable than it first appears. 😊 My friend Mary W from Norfolk, NE made it with slightly larger patches and hers is gorgeous! Find courtesy instructions on my blog, linked in my profile.

Meet Winona, who is 87 and quilting circles around the rest of us, full of energy, spry and alert and fantastically fun. Always sharing and teaching. Before class she imagined several original StarQuar designs of her own with her EQ software Electric Quilt . About those designs she said, “You’re going to hate me.” On the contrary, ‘Nona, I think you’re fabulous! Cabin Fever Quilters is lucky to have a treasure like you.
