Well… Jared’s Father’s Day cap isn’t going to be finished by Father’s Day.

But that’s okay.

The best part is that he already knows I’m making it, keeps checking on my progress, and is excited to try it on when it’s done.

The deadline may have gotten away from me, but the project hasn’t. Now to finish the cap and see if it looks as good on his head as it does in my imagination.

Anybody else have a project that’s running a little behind schedule but still worth finishing?

A few days ago this was just a pattern and some yarn.

Now it’s starting to look like something.

I’m making a flat cap for Jared, and the top is mostly finished. There’s still a lot left to do, but it’s far enough along that I can finally picture the finished project.

Now we’ll see if I can get it done before Father’s Day.

One of my favorite things about making gifts is that the project starts with a person, not a pattern.

When I saw this flat cap pattern, I immediately thought of Jared because he already wears flat caps and likes to golf.

The funny thing is I haven’t made a single stitch yet. But the pattern is picked, the yarn is picked, and the plan is officially in motion.

Do you make gifts with a specific person in mind, or do you find a pattern first and decide who gets it later?

A few days ago I was looking at a Father’s Day pattern and wondering if I was actually going to make it.

Today I picked the yarn.

That’s as far as we’ve gotten.

Considering the yarn spent most of the afternoon sitting on top of my to-do list, that feels about right.

Now to turn these skeins into a flat cap before Father’s Day.

Found a Father’s Day gift idea for Jared.

He already wears flat caps and likes to golf, so I think this one might be a winner.

The pattern is picked. The yarn isn’t. No stitches have been made. But we’re calling it progress anyway.

Anybody else currently in the “good idea, no actual progress” stage of a project?

Today’s been one of those days.

Mammogram. Bloodwork. Camp. Driving. Chores. Dinner. Nap.

And somehow I’m ending it looking at a crochet pattern for Jared’s Father’s Day gift.

Not sure if I’m starting it tonight or just admiring it from the couch.

Pattern is from Hooked by Kati if any of my crochet friends want to make one too.

Saturday night shift preparation:

Crochet project.
Book.
Questionable life choices.

Tucked this in my work bag to ward off those evil night shift spirits that start looking for trouble the second you sit down.

It’s over 80 degrees outside.

I packed away my bulky yarn.

Rivi started a star blanket with chunky yarn and is planning to take it to camp.

The confidence of teenagers is really something. 🧶😂. What’s on your hook for the end of May?

Current situation: rereading hockey romance while crocheting a prayer shawl like the emotionally balanced woman I pretend to be. 🧶📚

I’m kinda obsessed with these colors together honestly. Every few rows I spread it out dramatically on my lap like I’m revealing a masterpiece to absolutely nobody.

10/10 highly recommend having at least one comfort hobby and one questionable fictional man at all times. 👀

Today is Memorial Day and I know it’s not my normal day to post, but remembering and honoring are worth it.

Thankful for the men and women who gave everything so families like mine get ordinary days like this. Freedom to gather, laugh, build a life, raise kids, sit on the couch with a crochet project in my lap… none of that is small.

Remembering them today. 🇺🇸🧶
