Jared’s cap is officially on hold, but this time it’s at his request.

He found out one of his coworkers is expecting, and he asked if I would make her my traditional baby gift instead.

So out comes the lovey pattern I keep for exactly this reason, along with the soft pastel yarn. 🧶

The cap can wait a little longer. Baby gifts have deadlines.

Learning a hard lesson again. Maybe this time it’ll stick.

I had to completely frog Jared’s cap because I didn’t measure. I just followed the pattern, and of course it was too big.

I was almost done too. All that was left was the brim.

Oh well. Time to start over. 🧶

Please tell me I’m not the only one who has learned the “measure as you go” lesson more than once.

Earlier this week I said I sometimes have to schedule crochet time so life doesn’t keep pushing it aside.

So tonight, it’s on the calendar.

I’m watching a training, working on Jared’s cap, and my goal is just two rows.

Not a whole section. Not hours of progress. Two rows.

Sometimes that’s how a project gets finished around here. 🧶

One thing I’ve noticed about myself…

When life gets really busy, I actually schedule crochet time on my calendar.

If I don’t, it gets pushed aside by work, errands, laundry, appointments, and everything else that feels more urgent.

It’s funny that I have to schedule something I do to relax, but I’ve learned if I don’t make space for it, it doesn’t happen.

Does anybody else have to intentionally make time for their hobbies, or are you better at protecting that time than I am?

My grandma made this blanket years ago.

Apparently its official purpose is no longer to keep people warm.

It’s to provide the perfect nap spot for a very spoiled cat. 🐈

I guess if a crocheted blanket earns the approval of the pets, that’s about the highest compliment it can get.

Do your cats or dogs claim your handmade blankets, or do they actually let you use them?

Life has been life-ing this week.

The flat cap is patiently waiting for me, but between work, family, and everything else, crochet time has been hard to come by.

I’m hoping to pick it back up soon because I’d really like Jared to have his hat before it actually gets cold. 😆

One of my favorite discoveries at camp today:

The staff lounge has emergency yarn. 🧶

Apparently even summer camp understands that sometimes you need a quiet evening, a hook, and something to do with your hands after a long day.

Honestly, that feels like a sign that crocheters are everywhere. We just keep finding each other.

It’s awfully quiet around here tonight.

Jared is at work, the girls stayed at camp to work this weekend, Bubba is with his grandparents, and Physics is deeply offended that everyone has abandoned her.

So I’m working on the sides of Jared’s flat cap while listening to complaints from my furry supervisor. 😂

I think it’s finally starting to look like a hat instead of a mysterious blue pile of yarn.

Anybody else’s dog get extra clingy when the house gets quiet, or is mine just convinced she’s responsible for keeping track of everybody?

Well… Jared’s Father’s Day cap isn’t going to be finished by Father’s Day.

But that’s okay.

The best part is that he already knows I’m making it, keeps checking on my progress, and is excited to try it on when it’s done.

The deadline may have gotten away from me, but the project hasn’t. Now to finish the cap and see if it looks as good on his head as it does in my imagination.

Anybody else have a project that’s running a little behind schedule but still worth finishing?

A few days ago this was just a pattern and some yarn.

Now it’s starting to look like something.

I’m making a flat cap for Jared, and the top is mostly finished. There’s still a lot left to do, but it’s far enough along that I can finally picture the finished project.

Now we’ll see if I can get it done before Father’s Day.
