Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.. also known as ALS.
For those of you that are not familiar with this disease, let me fill you in a little bit.
ALS is a very harsh disease that remains a question to a lot of medical professions. Many people living with ALS remain mentally alert and aware throughout this disease.
ALS affects only motor neurons, which control voluntary movement and because of this:
Sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell are not affected
Eye muscles and bladder control are usually not affected
Everyone’s symptoms can look very different with this disease. Some people may notice difficulty holding a pen or lifting a cup. Others may first experience changes in their voice or speech.
Imagine having a disease that affects your body and your everyday motor skills but all while going through this disease your mind knows what is happening.
This disease has been experienced first hand in my family. My fraternal grandfather battled long and hard with this disease and while at that time there was not any medication or that many advanced technology choices to assist him during his battle.
Now, a woman I have become close to through my mother is now battling this awful disease but you would never know it because she holds her smile and beauty wonderfully each and every day.
For her and in memory of my grandfather, The Lotte is hosting a fundraiser where all proceeds will go directly to Tammy Mays Adams. Below are the shirt options and prices:
