Military families are asked for a LOT of things: Patience. Flexibility. Another goodbye.

But this time, you’re being asked for something that can actually help shape the conversations happening ABOUT us:

Your experience.

You don’t have to be a policy expert to know when a policy isn’t working.

You don’t need a fancy title to know that childcare is hard to find, employment gets complicated with every move, healthcare can be frustrating to navigate, or that stretching one paycheck through a separation hits differently when you’re the one actually doing it.

That lived experience is DATA.

Every year, the Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey gives military families an opportunity to put those experiences on paper. This helps make sure the people making decisions about our community have a clearer picture of what military life actually looks like.

So yes, YOU ARE one of the experts🇺🇸

SUMMER HOME CAMP☀️ Week 9 PT 2🚗

“I am either about to do something really brave…or really stupid…”

*Pulls out of driveway at 4am*

So…where exactly were we headed when I loaded up my four kids and drove 1,400 miles solo…

📍 Stanton, North Dakota

And I would do it all over again, in a heartbeat🫶🏼 because the hugs at the end of all those miles were worth it🥹

I wasn’t a military kid, but I did move around quite a bit growing up. When I think about the one singular place that has always felt like HOME, the one place that has always stayed the same, where I knew I belonged and where there would always be people waiting who loved me…this is it💯

North Dakota is where my mom grew up with her four sisters, working this ranch alongside my grandparents. It’s where my parents met while they were in college. And it’s where I spent so many of my own summers growing up.

I’d go stay with my grandparents by myself and basically pretend to be their fifth kid for a while. I rode horses, helped bale hay, worked in the garden, tagged along for ranch chores and got to just live this completely different life that I absolutely loved.

Watching the kids run around the same place that holds so much of my childhood…fishing in the river, loving on barn cats, playing outside until they were filthy, spending time with my grandparents and our extended family, was just everything.

Some people’s dream vacation is Europe.

Mine is a little ranch, full of love, in North Dakota🖤

SUMMER “HOME CAMP” ☀️ WEEK NINE PT 1🚗💨

With Peter out in the field, I did what any perfectly reasonable person would do and loaded up all four kids by myself, for a road trip😂

Where were we headed? Not telling you yet…you’ll have to stick around for Part 2👀

BUT! Our route happened to take us through Wisconsin, which meant we got to make a very special pit stop along the way…☺️

Some of our very best friends from our Fort Riley days are now stationed at Fort McCoy, and they so lovingly opened their home to our traveling circus for the night🎪🤹🏼‍♀️🥹

We were neighbors for FOUR years at Riley. Our kids grew up together. We did military life together. And getting to sit on their porch, eat homemade pizza, catch up on life, and watch our kids pick right back up with their friends like no time had passed just filled my heart all the way up😭 …while simultaneously realizing SO much time has passed. The kids are older. CHATTIER!😂 With their own big personalities —family members have been added!

Military life gives us people for seasons, but I’m so grateful that the end of a season doesn’t always mean the end of the friendship🖤🫶🏼Sometimes God gives us these little winks along the way, like a route that happens to pass through the exact right part of the state to give you one more night with people who were once part of your everyday life🥰

God has been so, so good to us in the people He has placed along our military journey. And I’m extra thankful whenever our paths get to cross again.

Alright…where exactly was this road trip taking the Sulli-Gang?👀👀👀

Stay tuned for Part 2!🚗

FORT CAMPBELL MILITARY WIVES📣
This night was created for YOU🫵🏼

On Friday, August 28th, the 160th’s Women of Faith is hosting a FREE Mil-Wives Worship and Connection Night right here in Clarksville!

The heart behind the evening is something I think so many of us in military life can relate to:

Our circumstances are constantly changing. We move. Our people move. Schedules change. Orders change. Seasons change.

But our identity in Christ does NOT.

This night is an opportunity to come together, worship, meet other women walking this military life, and get connected with local ministries that are already serving and supporting families throughout the Fort Campbell/Clarksville/Hopkinsville community.

I’m SO excited to be joining B. Smartt Bianet Smartt , April Griffin of Homefront Heroes Ministries , and Christine Gonsinger for the evening’s panel discussion on Identity in Christ!

SAVE THE DETAILS:
📅Friday, August 28, 2026
⏰5:00–8:00 PM
📍The Bridge | 301 Red Coat Run, Clarksville, TN
🎟️FREE to attend

Come for worship.
Come for community.
Come to find resources.
Come to meet someone new.

Come because maybe YOU are exactly the person another military wife needs to meet that night☺️🖤

This event is open to military wives, Gold Star spouses, and female service members.

One of the hardest things to explain about MIC is what the room actually feels like until you experience it for yourself.

You don’t need the biggest following. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Sometimes you just need to show up and give yourself the chance to find your place in the room. And trust us, we’ve got a seat for you.

Ashlee Sullivan came to MIC for the first time last year and left with a completely different understanding of what was possible for her.

This year, she’s coming back with friends who have become family.

WEEK 8 SUMMER “HOME” CAMP
(Home just for a pit-stop!)
July 4th - July 12th

This week was sandwiched in between two big trips but it was still packed!!

Another Change of Command Ceremony (This time sans kids to block my dress. Yes, I am an outfit repeater😆) I finally got some blooms in my mini garden!🌸 We hung out with neighbors and swam in the pool —it was so HOT🥵

And since we were going to be gone over Savannah’s ACTUAL birthday, without Dad —we celebrated her early, as a whole family. She’s going to read this, and just like this was NOT your official birthday, this is also NOT your official birthday post, Savannah!😆😂

A Super[natural] Sweet 16!📰🥀
Savannah said she wanted a “Supernatural” themed party —a show I have literally never seen in my life. I think what I scrapped together wasn’t too bad😮‍💨! We went ice skating together —always a crowd favorite. And we couldn’t land on whether she wanted a Red Velvet Cake or a Cheesecake…so we went with minis of both —and WHAT A SHAME I did NOT get a photo of my beautiful cake decorating skills! (I ruined it. REAL good😂💀)

Stay tuned for Week 9! It’s a GOOD ONE!📸🥹🖤

WEEK 7 PT. 2 SUMMER “HOME” CAMP
(But home, like Florida☀️🌴)
July 3rd - July 5th

This was such a fun & redemptive trip for our family. The last time we came home, we were deep in a challenging season —but God has taken us so far since then, like He always does🖤

I spent that season praying God-sized prayers. And He has blessed us with God-sized answers🥹

The weather was beautiful, we snuck in a date night, we did played in the pool, completed puzzles, doodled with chalk, and spent HOURS lighting off fireworks. We drove over to Sanibel Island for the day and collected so many amazing seashells. Someone lost a tooth and we had DQ for dinner.

When I left Florida in 2021, I was SO ready to go. I had already been solo parenting during Covid with a newborn and 3 bigs while Peter was at BCT and OCS...for SEVEN MONTHS. WOMAN + WARRIOR conveniently had *KABOOMED* right after he left, so I was SO crazy busy. I was selling and packing up a house by myself, trying to fit in saying bye to friends and family —and running completely on fumes…😮‍💨 I’m exhausted just remembering that season.

I don’t think I ever gave myself time to grieve leaving…I was just numb, and I left. I was ready to reunite our family🖤

But this trip, I think I finally let myself feel all my feels🥹 It was good to come back home and make new memories, and remember old ones.

And this time, it was bittersweet to leave🫶🏼
