According to the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report, NHTSA and Tesla discussed the problem for several months, with NHTSA's main concern that the failure (at a stop) could happen "at an unsafe location" and that the increased steering effort could surprise the driver and therefore a formal recall ought to be performed. Tesla agreed with that in mid-January.

This is now Tesla's second recall of 2025. At the beginning of the year, it issued a recall for more than 283,000 Models 3, Y, S, and X, which were built with potentially faulty backup camera systems. Since a backup camera system is a legal requirement under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, such failures are taken seriously—in October 2024 a different issue saw the recall of more than 27,000 Cybertrucks to fix their cameras.

The first step in Tesla's remedy for this latest camera problem is another software update—the problematic builds could, in cold weather, short out some power components in the camera system.

The Australian thermal coal market is currently experiencing a downturn, with contract prices hovering around $100 per tonne, reminiscent of pre-energy crisis levels, reported Bloomberg. This price drop is impacting producers and could be seen as a sign of coal's decline, but the situation may be temporary, the report said. The decline in investment in new coal production, driven by shareholder and banking resistance, contrasts with the rising demand in India and China. These countries' needs are outpacing the growth of renewable energy sources, suggesting that coal could remain profitable for longer than anticipated, despite the potential impact on climate targets. Glencore CEO Gary Nagle highlighted the company's commitment to coal during an earnings call last month, noting the shift in perception of the fuel. “A lot of our minority joint venture partners around the world, more particularly in Australia, wanted to get out of steam coal,” he said.

Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter and French football legend Michel Platini are back in court in Switzerland to face accusations of fraud.In 2022, the pair were acquitted in a trial over a payment of 2m Swiss francs (£1.6m) made to Platini and authorised by Blatter in 2011.Both men denied wrongdoing and said the transfer was belated payment for Fifa advisory work by Platini, who formerly led European football's governing body Uefa.But the Swiss federal prosecutor appealed against the decision. The new trial is expected to last until Thursday, with a verdict due on 25 March.The pair appeared before an appeals court in Muttenz, near Basel, on Monday. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has agreed to drop its ongoing enforcement lawsuit against American crypto exchange Kraken, according to a Monday announcement from the firm.The SEC sued Kraken in November 2023, accusing the exchange of commingling customer and corporate funds while operating as an unregistered securities broker, clearing agency and dealer. Instead of settling with the SEC, Kraken chose to fight the charges, and a federal judge ruled the agency had a plausible case and should go to trial. Now, pending approval from the SEC’s commissioners, Kraken says the charges will be dropped “with prejudice, with no admission of wrongdoing, no penalties paid and no changes to our business.”Kraken’s victory comes as the SEC continues its full-scale retreat from crypto enforcement cases and investigations that began during former Chair Gary Gensler’s tenure.
