A Quick history lesson on “crop tops” :

The male crop top was birthed in the early ’70s, most prominently in the world of college football. Players would cut the bottoms of their jerseys or tie them behind their backs as a way of making themselves more difficult to grab,

By the 80’s it was an extremely popular look for professional male athletes & celebrities.

in the ’70s and ’80s the world of bodybuilding and punk style also contributed to the rising popularity of the male crop top. Body builders would wear them to show off their muscles & get around strict gym dress codes.

Male Crop tops were very much present in the media as well; Rocky III (Apollo Creed), Adam Sandler’s Airheads, & Will Smith’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air all showed their stars sporting crop tops.
