I still see ads for $59.00 $79.00 some lower some higher for tune ups for air conditioning systems, in my previous HVAC life we use to offer them, the whole goal behind this is to get a customer with the low price and hopefully a repeat customer, but in reality what really happens is, it cost more than $79.00 to get a truck and tech to a house, tech wages $25 to $50 a hour, truck cost insurance, gas, truck payment ect, then office overhead,
and a tech can’t make a living just doing a proper maintenance on the system with the low price, and the company loses money by just doing maintenance, it puts pressure on the tech to sell parts or services which is ok if needed, the whole system puts to much pressure on a tech to make a living when offering low price tune ups.
A proper maintenance on a HVAC system should be billed out at $150 to $250 depending on tech wages and overhead. Would make the tech happier and the company. But the old marketing trick is still in play will take a several more years before it goes away or the company goes away.
