I still see ads for $59.00 $79.00 some lower some higher for tune ups for air conditioning systems, in my previous HVAC life we use to offer them, the whole goal behind this is to get a customer with the low price and hopefully a repeat customer, but in reality what really happens is, it cost more than $79.00 to get a truck and tech to a house, tech wages $25 to $50 a hour,truck cost insurance,gas, truck payment ect, then office overhead,
and a tech can’t make a living just doing a proper maintenance on the system with the low price, and the company loses money by just doing maintenance, it puts pressure on the tech to sell parts or services which is ok if needed, the whole system puts to much pressure on a tech to make a living when offering low price tune ups.
A proper maintenance on a HVAC system should be billed out at $150 to $250 depending on tech wages and overhead. Would make the tech happier and the company. But the old marketing trick is still in play will take a several more years before it goes away or the company goes away.

In the winter months most spend more time indoors, most HVAC systems have some sort of fresh air vent that goes from the outside to your Hvac system to keep fresh air in the home or business, some systems use the hvac system air filter to clean this air, some systems use a dedicated air filter just for cleaning the air. If so make sure it is changed at least once a year, it’s job is to remove mostly any pollens and allergy causing symptoms and any other contaminated air before bring into the home.

I preach about this all the time, get a good low level carbon monoxide detector. Just because your appliances are new does not protect you from the deadly gas. Appliances could be installed incorrectly or manufacture defects in the equipment.

As I do some winter maintenance and safety checks, Thermostats have gotten very sophisticated and high tech, which is a good thing, but most are not set up properly so you are not getting the benefits or it might not even be operating properly, next time you have your unit serviced have your technician check the settings on the Thermostat, make sure you have the manual available so he can set up, if not he may be able to go online to find the manual, There are so many high tech Thermostat available today and they are all program differently as in the past there were only a few to keep up with.
