A tiny woodland for little explorers 🍁 🦊

This taste-safe sensory base is made with cocoa pebbles (so even our littlest friends can explore safely, then layered with natural textures, woodland animals, mushrooms, leaves, wood slices, and little hiding spots to discover.

I love creating sensory invitations that give children room to scoop, search, collect, imagine, and decide where their play takes them.

This was one of the invitations from our very first Messy Monday at Hidden Creek Family Farm, and it was such a joy watching the children turn this little forest into their own world. 🍂 🍄

Our first Messy Monday was such a sweet way to start our fall mornings at the farm 🍁 🍃

There was scooping, pouring, mixing, painting, collecting, and plenty of little hands figuring things out as they played.

The trays may be what we set out, but the best part is seeing where the children take the invitation. Every child explores a little differently, and that’s what makes open-ended play so special.

Messy play gives children space to experiment, make choices, test ideas, use their senses, and learn through doing. There doesn’t have to be one right way to play for meaningful learning to happen.

I’m already looking forward to next Monday when we’ll be getting messy with pumpkins. 🎃

Our first Messy Monday at Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville was SO MUCH FUN! 🍂

Our two sensory trays gave little hands so many opportunities to explore, create, scoop, pour, and play. My favorite part was watching all of the little artists create their own leaf paintings using shaped sponges and real leaves we foraged.

MESSY MONDAY starts this Monday at Hidden Creek Family Farm!

sillylittlelemonssensoryplay is bringing sensory play to the farm, and we’re kicking things off with Nature Soup!

Kids can scoop, pour, mix, explore herbs and spices, collect pieces of nature and make their own very special “soup.” 🌿🍂🌸

Messy Monday is designed for little ones to PLAY. Get messy. Explore with their senses. Experiment. And just be kids.

And because it’s happening at the farm, you can make a morning of it and spend some time visiting the animals too. 🐮🐷🐐

I think this is probably the most accurate representation of motherhood recently.

I can plan sensory invitations, gather materials, create thoughtful little moments, and somehow still find myself standing in a grocery store an hour before pictures because I completely forgot we needed a cake.

I really am just your average mom trying to make childhood feel special while also having absolutely no idea what day it is.

We are SO excited to be partnering with Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville and bringing Messy Monday’s back starting Monday, September 7th!

We will be creating eight weeks of hands-on, seasonal sensory play! Each week, we’ll set up two sensory stations designed to encourage little ones to explore, create, experiment, and—of course-get a little messy.
We will also have art invitations and an occasional game to promote early preschool learning!

Here’s what’s on the calendar:
SEPTEMBER 7: FALL NATURE SOUP
SEPTEMBER 14: PUMPKIN SMASH & SQUISH
SEPTEMBER 21: APPLE PIE TASTE-SAFE MOON SAND

The activities will include fine-motor practice, early measuring, patterns, colors, cause and effect, water movement, buoyancy, and plenty of open-ended exploration.

Cost: $10 and $8 for each sibling.
Adults and nonparticipating babies are free.

When you spend your days creating sensory play for other children, it’s pretty special when you get to create it all for your own. 🤍

My daughter’s first birthday was filled with little pieces of the things I love most — sensory play, imagination, tiny hands creating, and a little bit of fairy magic.

I hand-painted the little rocks for her sensory tray, made her fairy potion play, mixed the mica powder for our potion jars, and created a Build Your Own Fairy Garden bar for her little friends.

These are the details I know I’ll always remember. The little things I got to make with my own hands for a very special little girl. 🧚‍♀️✨
