Recently, I had the privilege to work with the Smith family to create a quilt to honor the memory of their son, Thomas. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he must have been a fantastic son, brother and friend.
Working with Carla Williams Smith, I knew I had to be delicate with how I handled her treasured memories and how we discussed the quilt making process. As much as they wanted to create this tangible memory of Thomas, I know it hurt their hearts to go through the process.
The finished product is beautiful! The quilt is an amazing collection of memories for their family to share of their pride in their son and brother, to display as a visual reminder that he is always a part of their family and to wrap themselves up when days are difficult.
