The ATF proposed updating Form 4473 to require s*x assigned at birth instead of current legal gender marker.

As of now, the form hasn't changed. But the announcement was designed to do damage before any rule takes effect.

Why are we called Sinister Stash?

Sinister is the Latin word for left.

In English, the word accumulated darker meaning over centuries — danger, subversion, the threatening unknown. That shift happened because left, in almost every context, got coded as something to fear.

Which is what political polarization has done to us, too. The right side of American gun culture has spent decades making sure that anyone who does not fit their mold - anyone left of center, anyone who does not look the part - gets treated as an outsider in a space that legally belongs to everyone.

There is also the other side of that.

Those of us on the left who believe in our right to protect ourselves are not just pushed out by the right. We are treated as a contradiction by our own people. As if believing in the Second Amendment cancels out everything else we stand for. As if you cannot hold progressive values and also hold a firearm. As if self-defense is something only certain people are allowed to want.

We get told we are part of the problem by the same communities we are trying to protect ourselves within.

Stash is a deliberate choice, too. You carry a collection of items that say something true about who you are. A stash is what you are building. It implies accumulation. Counterculture DNA without explanation.

Sol has a left-pointing arrow on his forehead. He has been carrying that mark the whole time. It was there when we found him curled up in the range bag.

We built this for the people gun culture said did not belong here.
