I used to think the battlefield was in third-world countries, but after my mission trip, I’m realizing it’s much closer to home. In Cambodia, life seemed simpler - people planted, harvested, and survived without the constant hum of distractions. Coming back, I felt like I was walking into spiderwebs—traps of busyness, distractions, and the constant pull of technology. It reminds me of the 90’s song by No Doubt, where Gwen Stefani sings about avoiding persistent calls. I’ve realized that these “calls” aren’t just from people—they’re from the world itself, demanding my time, energy, and attention. It’s a frustrating battle, but one that can’t be ignored if we want to live differently.
I’m not pointing fingers without looking in the mirror. I feel the pull of these traps daily. The holidays came and went in a blur, leaving me heavier, both physically and spiritually. Social media creeps back onto my phone, and before I know it, I’m mindlessly scrolling. It’s a battle not just for my time but for my soul.
There’s a way that seems right to the world—more stuff, more success, more screens—but it leads to destruction. If we want to break free, we need a different standard. God’s Word is that mirror, showing us who we were meant to be and how to live. Wipe off the spiderwebs, pick up your Bible, and get to work. Live counter-culturally, love deeply, and serve humbly. Only then can we break free from this world’s traps and walk in the life God designed for us.
