a D.A.Y. Like Yours Welcome to a place dedicated to raising Autism Awareness through children's literature, art and apparel for the entire family. www.adaylikeyours.com Adore It.

I am a parent of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I like many other parents felt lost, saddened, defeated and even guilty when my son was diagnosed. I read every book I could get my hands on, looking for comfort and answers. I have grown to understand and accept my sons diagnosis as a blessing in disguise. His view on the world opened my eyes to the simple things in life. He changed me

without even trying. Children like him have that affect on us adults. Once I got an idea of what to expect and how to help my son, I went looking for books that would help him understand who he is. I wanted to find books to help his younger brother understand who he is. There is a limited selection of how to books out there for autistic children, but there wasn't a book that clearly portrayed who my son was. He never saw himself in stories. The same for his brother. There wasn't a story available where he saw why his brother wouldn't play or talk like the other kids. He wanted to know why his brother was different. I saw a need in my children's lives and decided to fill it. I developed a story line based on my boys and our lives with Autism. The series is called I'm Not Different. It will tackle everyday issues that my son faces on a child's level. Our children need to know that they aren't the only ones facing these struggles; that their brother or sister isn't the only one overcoming this disorder. I have raised my sons to be very accepting of the people around them. I raised them to understand that people have circumstances that set us all apart from one another, but at the end of the day we all have one basic thing in common. We need to love and need to be loved. Please take the time to browse the products available. Give suggestions about topics you would like addressed and provide input on apparel you would like to see the designs offered on. We appreciate your time and remember:

Delight in It. You Hold Something Amazing.

The Holidays are fast approaching. Things move faster, schedules change, large crowds while shopping, holiday parties, family gatherings, bright lights, different smelling foods and so much more for a child with Autism to adjust and adapt to.

Life is already hectic, but what's it like for that family who has a child with Autism? Children with Autism tend to be very picky eaters, so holiday foods won't satisfy them the way we look forward to them. Loud crowds and noises overwhelm some children with Autism, so how do they get the holiday shopping done and participate in holiday parties? Normal routine is disturbed with Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. How does a family help their child adjust and adapt to all the things that will be going on around them?

For us, it took much time and effort to get D.A.Y. adjusted to all the commotion that surrounds the holidays. He has ventured out from only eating chicken nuggets at Thanksgiving, to requesting mac & cheese and sweet potato pie ONLY! He has learned to tune out the large crowds only focusing on all the pretty decorations and Christmas music. In fact, this is D.A.Y.'s absolute favorite time of the year.

It's 2012, and D.A.Y. wants to walk from house to house singing Christmas Carols and hopes families give him hot chocolate. He has fallen completely in love with the idea of this holiday season and wishes to do any and everything that a traditional family would do this time of the year.

In this time of Thanksgiving, we are so very thankful that D.A.Y. is a child with such perseverance to be who his heart desires.

a D.A.Y. Like Yours first appearance to the public was a success. We met so many individuals with stories to share. We met so many children that were like D.A.Y. Saw the promise, the hope and the future for him in other children.

Everyone loved the idea of the book series. Everyone loved the shirts and wristbands. The message is out there and it's only going to grow.

A special thanks to everyone who showed up, helped out, or walked for a D.A.Y. Your presence meant the world.

Autism Speaks is a great organization that hosts these events all year long. Thanks to them for heading the movements to bring awareness.

Now, back to writing that book!

I love this show..and this is one of the reasons why. This character has Asperger's, which is on the Autism Spectrum. This moment is so accurate at allowing people to see a glimpse into Autism. It brought tears to my eyes because even though he's just a character, there are many kids like him.

Max explains why his Asperger's will help him be an excellent student body president.

I've been drawn to speak on the struggles today. I've been drawn to say it's not easy at all. Most of us parents smile in your face as you pat our child on the back. We smile as you all tell us how sweet our child is, how well-liked they are. However, at the end of the day...your words don't measure up to the overwhelming fear that this child with such amazing talents and a warm heart; this child will get left behind. This child will become a statistic that just gets passed along because he is labeled 'special'.

a D.A.Y. Like Yours meaning, like you...I too have a child affected by Autism. I too, face daily challenges regarding my child's education, emotional stability, social growth and just regular child rearing.

D.A.Y. is Autistic. He struggles, I cry. He triumphs, I cry. Raising a child is no easy feat; and here we are raising one with some special needs.

I get down sometimes; I see D.A.Y. get overwhelmed. I'm not mad at the cards we were dealt, but I have many moments when I have no idea what to do. We see goals and have no idea how to reach them. We see other kids his age and have no idea how to get him on their level. I watch him stare at the paper and my heart just screams on the inside, "Do something, Mom!"

His triumphs mean the world to us, but it's one day at a time. Constantly consumed by the thoughts of 'how'. How is this going to turn out? How is he going to succeed? How do I know what we are doing is the right thing? How do we make sure the world/life doesn't overlook him or pass him by?

My goal is that D.A.Y. gets a chance at every opportunity the next child gets. D.A.Y. isn't different, he's just D.A.Y.
