I'm doing it. The projects that in the past seemed too far out of reach for me, or that seemed better suited for a more experienced woodworker or artist. I'm actually here, ten years into the future from when I carved my first spoon. I had no idea the burns and turns life would take, but I am here. Meeting wonderful people who trust my artistic vision and entrust me to bring that vision into their sacred spaces.
The photos above are from a most recent commission. I was sought out to make shelves that would line a sacred space with approximately 100 linear feet of olive wood, along with wall hanging and altars.
My client and I sourced 28 slabs of olivewood to get started. One of my favorite steps was finding the matching slabs, cutting them to similar widths at the ends, and butt matching them all to look like continuous shelves.
I also made two altars with live edge olivewood, and I sourced two book matched sets for this part of the project. I'm very pleased with how they turned out, and I'm truly in awe of the space that my new friend created.
I can't stop staring at the art in this room, and it dawned on me that that's my art up in there, too.
