We’re excited to unveil one of our latest custom creations from Gaston Hattery—and this one came with a story we couldn’t wait to share.

When David contacted us, he told us something that made this project especially meaningful: he had never owned a hat before.

He said Gaston Hattery had come highly recommended, and after looking through our work, he knew he wanted us to create his very first hat. David came to us with a few ideas and inspirations, but when it came to bringing everything together, he gave us the creative freedom to make it uniquely his.

His request? Something edgy.

As a cigar enthusiast, David wanted a cigar incorporated into the design—and possibly a cigar cutter. He also loved snakeskin and barbed wire. From there, we took his ideas and began building a hat with plenty of character, texture and attitude.

The finished design features:

• An Australian wool fedora shaped in a classic Outback style
• A genuine black cobra snakeskin hatband
• Vintage fabric layered over the snakeskin for added texture and dimension
• A custom cigar holder designed to accommodate different-sized ci**rs and secure them to the brim
• An antique-inspired cigar cutter tucked into the hatband
• Barbed-wire detailing wrapped around the crown
• Bronze-toned chain accents around and across the top of the crown
• A fleur-de-lis hat pin
• And perhaps our favorite detail: the 5 of Hearts and 2 of Hearts playing cards

Those two cards aren’t simply decoration. David’s grandson is 5, his granddaughter is 2—and they are his heart.

To complete the look, we hand-burned and distressed the hat to develop a rich, weathered patina that gives it the feeling of a piece that already has a story to tell. Inside, we finished it with a signature Gaston Hattery satin liner.

When David saw the finished hat, he told us we had nailed it.

For someone who had never owned a hat before, we wanted his first one to be anything but ordinary.

One-of-One Stetson — Reimagined by Gaston Hattery

Bold, rebellious, and impossible to overlook, this one-of-one Stetson has been completely reimagined by Gaston Hattery as a wearable piece of Western art.

Beginning with a classic Stetson, the design was transformed through layers of hand-selected materials and distinctive detailing. Vintage-inspired necktie fabrics in deep red, black, silver, and gold wrap the crown, creating rich texture and movement. Metallic cord, chain, barbed-wire accents, hand-placed spikes, decorative beads, and artisan pins add an unmistakable rock-and-roll edge.

The focal point is a dramatic jeweled longhorn skull, surrounded by layered fabrics and metalwork that give the hat its outlaw-meets-luxury personality. Additional chain detailing drapes across the crown, while hand-applied accents and subtle distressed finishing continue around the entire hat, making it striking from every angle.

The hat has also been individually burned, distressed, finished, and sealed by hand, giving the black surface additional depth and character while helping protect the final design.

Gaston Hattery is back in Glen Rose, Texas today at the Expo. There is a vendor market as well as a roping competition here today. And outside there is a carnival. So there is a lot to see and do for the family. We will be here until 9:00 PM. Come see us!

Want to get out of Dallas for the day and do something different and fun? Head to Glen Rose, TX for the No Bull Vendor Market at the Expo! Gaston Hattery will be there with our hats as well as our hat bar!

The event features a Cinch Breakaway Roping competition, vendor market AND a carnival! So come on down and enjoy carnival and the food - then come inside and cool off and watch the competition and shop the vendor market. But if you do - come by and say hello.

The event will be from 10:00am-9:00pm at the Expo at Glen Rose, TX. See ya’ll there!
