Grosse Ile Toll Bridge, which connects Grosse Ile Township to the Michigan mainland over the Detroit River.
The bridge opened in 1913 as a private toll bridge, serving as the first permanent vehicular crossing to the island.
It is a swing truss bridge design, necessary to allow ship traffic on the Detroit River to pass through.
The original structure featured a wooden deck, as shown in the photo, before being updated over the years.
Today, Grosse Ile is also connected by a free bridge, which was constructed later to accommodate increasing traffic.
