Giving my vintage Dior Saddle Bag new life took me a total of 78 hours to complete- working on it little by little every night during my night watch as we sailed 3700 nautical miles over 28 days across the Pacific Ocean aboard our catamaran, .
I had a vision to breathe new life into my well-loved purse using charms, chains, and buttons that matched the gold and denim tones. Many nights in my early 2000’s were spent covered in spray tan, standing in torture chamber high heels at the hottest night clubs and parties in Hollywood carrying this bag…. And the wear and tear showed! Seriously, if this bag could talk 🫢
I had inherited my grandmothers button collection which included many nautical style gold buttons- so fitting and sentimental for this project!
While traveling through Mexico at the beginning of our sailing journey, I started collecting “Milagros” which are small, religious folk charms that are traditionally used for healing purposes in Mexico. They are frequently attached to altars, shrines, and sacred objects found in places of worship… and also can be found tucked away in Grandma’s purses for good luck and protection. They were perfect for this project!
Add in some gold chain and tassels that I had add left over from my business, and hours of hand needle and thread work…. AND VOILA! My very loved Vintage Dior Logo Saddle Bag is like new, and one-of-kind ready for the spotlight again! 💙
