I like collaboration projects. This one was with Pinemonkey in his shop. He had recently purchased a spectacular vintage sewing machine at a thrift store and needed a tutorial on how to thread and use it. The project was to replace a broken handle on a tool bag with repurposed material.

The column of stitches holding this pocket on was starting to unravel. Luckily, the owner did not cut off the original yard, so it could be used to chain stitch the row back together.

Here's a fun project. If you were alive in the 70's, I bet your house had one of these. Do an image search of 'vintage spring mills cut and sew' and take a trip down memory lane. The owner of this vintage pattern wanted it put together for the upcoming holiday season. There's an even bigger one coming up.....stay tuned.

Quilt part 3: The border.
I took a break from mending holes in the interior quilt squares to replace the border. Out of all the fabric used in this quilt, the solid blue is the most compromised, so a whole new border was needed. I repurposed a matching bedsheet to get the lengths required . I will go back to handstitch where the corners attach, then return to squares while looking for fabric to repurpose for the pink outer edge trim.

Tablecloth Conclusion: True to the Valéry quote, I could never really finish this work, but it was time to return it to its' owner. Now, this tablecloth is ready to present the upcoming holiday meals. If you didn't see the condition when the project started (end of August), there were dozens of small holes, a few large holes, and the entire bottom right corner was detached. This is a good example of a repair vs a restoration: as much of the original material was kept and the mends are visible if you look for them. Bon appétit!
