Some new and some old. I’m not sure if this is influencing, de-influencing, or simply images passing by your eyes as you scroll but I’m slowly rolling out my Christmas decorations.

I have been listening to different ways to create Christmas “magic” in my home. Trying to remember what I loved as a child and adolescent. Santa was huge in my home growing up. I was always soooo excited to see what Santa brought on Christmas morning but at the same time some of my most cherished memories are the Christmas Eve services at church and coming home to a beautifully decorated table and share a meal together.

With a new little family it’s hard to know what will stick but I want to make an effort for a majority of our traditions to point to Jesus and family.

Saying goodbye to my minimal (mostly goodwill) fall decor so I can deep clean and say hello to Christmas 🎄

most of the time I’m ready right at the beginning of November or even Halloween day to decorate for Christmas, but this year is a little different with a baby.

I feel like one of the reasons I haven’t decorated yet. It’s because this fall has been such beautiful weather, and I’m not ready to say goodbye to our comfortable walks outside in the sunshine living in northern Minnesota.

Last winter was hard as I was stuck inside most of the time unable to go outside. Of course it was a blessing, having a brand new baby and that brought coziness on its own, but I definitely got cabin fever.

When I decorate for Christmas, I feel like I’m welcoming winter and normally I’m very ready for winter as I love the snow and I love the chilly air but this year just seems a little different. Fall has been so sweet and I know it’s such a short season. I want to savor every second.

But with a little girl who’s having a birthday so close to Christmas I’m excited to make this place magical for a child for the very first time.

I’ve been dreaming of different Christmas traditions. I can start as a little family that point to Jesus during this season. I want to cultivate a joy filled home this season with lots of things to look forward to, but also welcome peace and rest as we gear up for a busy season as ministry workers.

All this to say, thank you God for fall and sweet seasons. I pray we welcome the next season with eagerness, knowing that we are celebrating the Savior’s birth!
