On June 15, 1901, the Old Stone Fort in Nacogdoches was sold. Soon after, one of the oldest landmarks in Texas was dismantled in the name of progress.

Today, a replica stands at Stephen F. Austin State University, built with original materials.

Texas history does not preserve itself. Someone has to care.

On March 2, 1836, delegates at Washington-on-the-Brazos declared that the people of Texas were no longer merely subjects of a distant power.
