SS26 through the lens of collaboration—early call times, shared instinct, and a team moving in sync. From styling and set to camera and craft, every frame shaped by the people behind it.

Inspired by the Beat generation’s spirit of quiet rebellion, the energy on set matched: intuitive, thoughtful, and a little bit untamed. Less about perfection, more about perspective—everyone bringing something distinct to the process.

Grateful for the crew who turned ideas into moments and moments into story.

Comfort in Function

Ryan’s days don’t really stop—they just shift. Mornings begin with his kids, getting everyone moving and out the door, before he finds a brief moment on his bike. It’s a small reset, but the rhythm carries through.

From there, it’s work, meetings, errands—everything overlapping without clear breaks in between.
What he wears has to move through all of it just as naturally.

For years, that’s been KATO denim. Not because it stands out—but because it doesn’t need to. It’s durable enough to keep up, comfortable enough to forget about, and consistent enough to reach for every single day.

One pair, worn hard. Washed when needed. Back in rotation without a second thought.
Over time, it becomes personal. Creases, fades, movement—each mark built through real wear, not intention.

Because the right denim doesn’t interrupt your day—it becomes part of it.

The Wrench, back for summer. Our classic short-sleeved aloha shirt is slimmer than a vintage boxy Hawaiian shirt but has enough room to be comfortable under the summer sun. Wear it open over a tee, sleeves loose while the suns out.

The making of Japanese selvedge denim

Great denim starts with great cotton. Our mill sources raw fibers from select regions worldwide, chosen for strength, consistency, and how they’ll wear over time. Since cotton quality shifts with climate and harvest, they plan months ahead, holding inventory to keep every batch up to standard.

Before spinning, each bale is opened, cleaned, and blended to remove impurities and lock in quality. Then the cotton is spun into yarn through a tightly controlled five-step process.

1. Carding: The fibers are aligned and stacked.
2. Drawing: The cotton is bundled and lightly twisted.
3. Roving: The thread is twisted again to strengthen it. At this point, they are about as thick as udon noodles.
4. Spinning: A strong twist is applied to the roving to make a single thread.
5. Finishing: The yarns are inspected.

Not all selvedge is created equal. At KATO, each Selvedge ID color represents a different denim weight — a signature detail woven on vintage shuttle looms and a mark of true craftsmanship.

The term “selvedge” comes from “self-edge,” referring to the clean finished edge created when denim is woven on traditional shuttle looms. This tightly woven construction creates a stronger, denser fabric built to last and fade beautifully over time.

From lightweight to heavyweight Selvedge denim, every pair is designed for durability, comfort, and character with wear.

Scroll through the carousel and tell us which Selvedge ID color is your favorite.
