At the Stache Ranch Experience, you won’t be thrown into the herd and expected to figure it out.

You’ll build from the foundation:

Jen heard me say that during a lesson last night. 😂

Better horsemanship comes from learning when to guide, when to support and—most importantly—when to release.

Your hands should help create understanding, not become something your horse has to fight.

Compliments feel good.

When someone tells you, “You handled your horse really well,” that matters. When your hard work shows—even if you didn’t win—that is something to be proud of.

But don’t fall into the trap of believing that’s good enough.

Somebody else is hungry. They’re carving out the time, putting in the work and getting help from the right people. While you’re getting comfortable, they’re getting better.

Then one day, they beat you—and you’re left wondering what happened.

If you’re winning, don’t sit down. Stay hungry. Keep looking for the opportunities, instruction and experience that will make you better.

If you’re not winning, don’t get discouraged. Don’t blame yourself, and don’t blame your horse. Take an honest look at what needs to change:

Are you learning from someone who can help you reach your goal?

Are you spending time with riders who raise your standards?

Are you practicing with a purpose—or simply riding around?

How much time are you losing scrolling through videos that do nothing for your horsemanship?

You don’t need hours every day. Find 15 focused minutes.

Work on one transition. One stop. One circle. One response. Don’t quit when the clock runs out—finish when you’ve made something a little better than it was when you started.

Better might mean winning.

Better might mean riding with more confidence.

Better might mean your horse becoming softer, calmer and more responsive.

Whatever better means to you, go earn it.

Accept the compliment. Be proud of your progress. Then get back to work.

Don’t just ride your horse.

Ride your horse better.
