Usborne Books & More with Jen Welcome to Usborne Books and More with Jen. I love reading, literacy, and kids. Usborne gives me a great balance of all of those.

I have been thinking a lot about why I am in the business of selling books. I think at the core, it's that literacy matters. I come from a long legacy of literacy and education. My great grandmother went to college at a time when almost no women went to college. My grandmother is a college graduate and then was a school teacher most of her life. Three of her children became teachers. Some of her c

hildren (including my dad) went on for advanced degrees. And almost every one of my siblings either has a college degree (or advanced degree) or is working toward one. I think one of the big reasons why is because literacy mattered to those who came before and they passed that passion on to us. I want to do my part to help keep that passion going through future generations, both in my family and those around me.

So my toddler jammed a VHS tape in the VCR backwards, and we couldn't get it out. I did a little research, and 5 minutes with a screwdriver fixed it quite easily. It made me think that VCRs are so old, and technology has surpassed them.

Then I thought about books, and about how they have been around for centuries, and they still hold so much value. We still learn from them, and our lives are enriched by them. What have you read lately?

This got a chuckle out of me. What are some real reasons to read books over the internet?

This is always available on computers for free, but the app usually has a fee (~$5). It is free this week only in all app stores! If you have a little one learning to read (learning letters through intermediate level), I highly recommend getting this app for free while you can!

McAllen is a town in the southern section of Texas that saw one of its Walmart locations go out of business and sit idle for many years. After the store shuttered, it eventually fell into the property of the city, and the decision was made to turn the building into a public library.
