Katherine Vaughan Designs

Katherine Vaughan Designs I design patterns for knitters that focus on accessories for adults, children, and the home, as well as some garments for adults and children.

My designs focus on function over form; texture over color; and comfort over glam.

I'm so excited to announce that I now have my own shopfront on PayHip: www.payhip.com/KTLVDesigns!

This page will let me sell my patterns directly from social media and my own website. All of my patterns are available via PayHip as well as LoveCrafts.

I'm also pleased to announce that Mary El Vaughan is joining me as an administrator for this page and the rest of my social media. It's exciting to have a partner!

Happy new year! One of my intentions this year is to release a pattern every month - as opposed to clustering them all in one extravaganza of patterns, as I did last year, or releasing none at all like 2017. And thus, I give you the Arecales Scarf!

This is worked in Anzula Silken, a wonderful silk/wool fi*****ng that is both soft and crunchy - just what I wanted for this botanical/woven scarf. The stitch pattern is based on one that I found in several books, but adjusted to be slightly asymmetrical. Available on Ravelry and LoveKnitting. Enjoy!

One of my go-to gifts is a set of washcloths and some fancy (usually handmade) soap. I knit this one during an all-day meeting today. What's your standard gift?

Published today on Ravelry and LoveKnitting: The Wineberry Wrap! This is done with one skein of Anzula Croquet, a lovely DK-weight silk/merino blend. It uses a stepwise shaping technique to get a long asymmetrical triangle that's easy to wear and quick to knit.

I am pleased to release today the Jazz Feet Socks! These are lovely because they're a little thicker than normal handknit socks (due to the sport-weight Oink Pigments yarn, one of my faves), but not too hot because of the eyelet ribbing. Now on Ravelry and soon to LoveKnitting.

Here's this week's new pattern - the Luxilus Wrap. I normally don't do a lot of colorwork patterns, and really this one is the most basic of colorwork, with striping in blocks and different lace patterns. I love how the kettle-dyed blue works with the variegated yellow/blue in this pattern, though. Plus, the DK-weight Baah! Yarn Sonoma is fun and works up a dream!

Two ripple lace patterns and two complementary colorways of yarn work off and with each other in this rectangular wrap in a way that reminds me of the little fish that dart in and out of the sunlight in the Shenandoah River near my home. Luxilus is a genus of fish that includes the common shiner.

Today I published the Reddish K**b Cowl, which is much more comfortable (and easier!) than the hike in the Shenandoah National Park for which it is named. I may never succeed in making that hike, but I'll likely turn to this pattern over and over again.

I know it's been an age since I published anything - this is what getting a doctoral degree looks like! - but today I'm over the moon happy to release the Up and Down and All Around infinity scarf, done with Anzula For Better or Worsted. A companion to the popular Here and There and Everywhere, for this week there's a promotion when you buy both through Ravelry (previous sales included!). See the Rav page for details:

Hello all! I've got a new pattern published this week on Ravelry, Loveknitting, and Craftsy: the Shellcraft Shawl. Enjoy!

The inspiration for this pattern are sailor’s valentines, those shell-bedecked crafts made by sailors (or, more likely, bought by them in Barbados) out of found shells and other objects that they would give to their sweethearts upon return as a token that they were thinking of them while on the voyage. In this version the valentine represents a story of a voyage to Europe told in knit stitches from popular ports of call. The shawl uses the typical “pi” construction. At the center is a simple eyelet mesh, reminiscent of the rigging and netting that is so vital to sailors. The main stitches are historic laces from England, France, and Spain, with a short border of the eyelet mesh to hold it all together.
