(There’s two parts to this post. Please read both!)
⚡️Part 1:
Did you know Haku is not a type of lei?
Many times, lei worn around the head are mistakenly called Haku Lei. This is incorrect. Lei worn on our heads are called Lei Po’o.
So, what does Haku mean? It means to braid. It is not a type of lei, but rather a lei making technique … along with the others here in our new graphic!
Our new Hana Lei graphic illustrates some of the different types of lei making techniques that we use. Each one is unique and varies based on what types of materials are being used and what end result is desired.
⚡️Part 2:
We are human and humans make errors. There is a typo that we didn’t catch until we received our inventory! HILO is a very popular technique, which means to twist or braid. Lā’ī (tī leaves) is a common material used for lei hilo.
Our graphic here has HILI written, which is technically not fully accurate.
⚡️So, what does this mean?
In good conscience, we can’t sell these tees. We can’t accept anything less than perfect, especially in something that is meant to educate and bring awareness to such an important part of our culture. But we also can’t throw them away! Sustainability is a pillar of ours.
Sooooo, YOU CAN GET IT FOR FREE!
If you make any purchase tomorrow when we launch, add this tee to your cart and it’ll be marked down to Free.
See you tomorrow April 28 at 10am hst 😘
