We’ve had Taj’s friends (10yo) over every Monday after school this entire school year… and it’s been one of the best decisions we made.

Our only “rule”? No devices or screens.

And what unfolded was kind of amazing…

A simple hose turned into their favorite thing for two months straight.
Couch cushions became obstacle courses for another two.
And in between, they played every sport they could - basketball, soccer, football, baseball.

It’s not always easy (it definitely takes intention), but what comes out of it feels really special - the kind of play, connection, and memories that stick.

Continuing our Read Across America celebrations with Teddy! 📚

Last week, I had the joy of visiting my daughter’s class - along with several other grade-level classrooms - to read Teddy in Trouble. It’s truly so special watching children laugh, think, and get completely absorbed in a story. It reminds me why I became an educator and created Teddy in the first place.

Hearing a story from the author isn’t just fun - it’s a powerful way for kids to connect with reading, spark curiosity, and see that stories are made by real people, just like them. And I’ll admit… it’s pretty magical for me too, stepping into classrooms with books I’ve written. 🤗

A huge thank you to the incredible teachers who made Teddy’s storytime possible. Your dedication creates spaces where the love of reading begins.

Last week, I had the joy of visiting my daughter’s class - along with several other grade-level classrooms - to read Teddy in Trouble. Such a huge milestone, and I’m so incredibly grateful for each of you who’s here in these early days of Teddy. I may not post often, but the fact that you’re here means you see something special in Teddy… or you’re just an amazing human who loves supporting small businesses. Either way, I’m endlessly thankful.

Happy Read Across America Day! 📚

We’re celebrating all month with school readings and signings - and we kicked things off at my nephew’s school in Orange County with their amazing kindergarten classes. SO much fun hearing them yell “TEDDY!” every time things got silly 🙃

Throwback Thursday (is that still a thing?!) to MAGIC E! 🪄
(also known as silent e)

When you add Magic e, it gives all its power to the vowel - turning a short vowel into a long vowel (hello, letter name sounds!).

Before teaching this concept, your child should feel confident reading CVC and CCVC words (short vowels + blends). They should also know that vowels have two sounds:
✔️ short sounds
✔️ long sounds (they say the letter name)

This was just before my son turned 5. He was reading short vowel words pretty easily and ready for his next reading challenge 💪🏽📚

Will share the materials I used to make the Magic e arrow in Teddy’s stories - simple, hands-on, and so effective ✨
