May is Maternal Mental Health Month.š¤±š» Raising awareness around perinatal mental health (PMH) is a big reason why Porpoise Goods exists. 1 in 5 moms experience depression and anxiety during pregnancy, post-loss and/or postpartum. Thatās more common than getting the flu every year (CDC says thatās 1 in 10!).
I didnāt realize I had perinatal depression until a year postpartum. I felt empty and disconnected but kept myself busy with work and just went through the motions everyday, and it crept up on me. Looking back, it was so obvious, but I had to google to confirm, which is when I found . Learning about PPD and so many othersā stories gave me the courage to seek help. š
If this sounds familiar, here are some things that helped me:
š©āš»Check out PSI for PMH education and community. They have a helpline, support groups, and other services.
š©āāļøBe real with your doctor. Itās easy to not answer that mood questionnaire honestly. I almost didnāt.
š¤³If you just need to vent anonymously, new mom subreddits are a great place for that!
Letās talk about it. You are not alone.
