56 years ago today, Steve Kirkpatrick worked his first shift as a coal miner.

Today, we are honoring him and all of the coal miners like him who have worked so hard to provide, and the coal mining families and communities that love them with the release of the Pirate Squirrel Coal Co. shirt.

We asked him if he had a favorite quote about mining, and he said “Endure the darkness. Believe in the light…” followed by “Sounds like an owl shift problem.”
