Hyleco: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HydeLeatherCompany Hello everyone ... Welcome to our page! We're a handmade little girls clothing and accessories line. All pieces are designed and produced by me, Jessica Franklin-Jackson, Fashion Design / Illustration graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas. Since graduating in 2000,

I’ve worked with numerous high end collections over the years and hope to bring my eye for style/design to my own collection. Through my work I’ve developed a great appreciation for quality and design, and I’m lucky to have had 15 years experience merchandising and styling for some of the top designers. Being a mother of three I know how important quality is when buying children’s clothing. With that in mind each piece is made on an individual basis ... this way you can be sure your getting a one of kind piece that a lot of love went into producing. Being that each item is a one of a kind ... there may be very slight nuances that which may differ from piece to piece, which I believe adds to the uniqueness of our London Grey apparel and accessories line. My style is a little bit vintage and a little bit modern. I like to combine the two using more modern designs and vintage fabrics or vice versa. London Grey is a collection inspired by my own little girl, London Grey Jackson. It’s my intention for this collection to be a whimsical fun flirty line for little girls. Not too serious, but for girls who love to twirl and pick flowers and play make believe! Nothing makes me smile more than to see my sweet babies playing and giggling! I hope our collection can bring happiness to your little girls as well! Take care and treasure each moment you have with your own little ones, for they are only babies for a little while. Feel free to contact us via telephone at 214-455-3900 or you can also reach us via email at [email protected]. Custom by request ... always handmade =)

I’ve decided to stop pretending I understand the art world.

Before anyone gets offended—yes, I know art is subjective. Yes, I know abstract and conceptual art can be incredibly meaningful. And yes, I absolutely believe art doesn’t have to be realistic, technically difficult, or even traditionally beautiful to be worthwhile.

But sometimes…

you just have to laugh.

There are moments when the explanation surrounding a piece becomes so elaborate that I can’t help but wonder if we’re all taking this a little too seriously.

So consider this my very unofficial contribution to the ongoing conversation about what exactly qualifies as “art.”

No hate. No disrespect.

Just an artist having a little fun with an art world that occasionally takes itself VERY seriously.

And if you know me, you know I’ll probably be back at my easel afterward doing the exact same thing I always do:

Making stuff because I love making stuff.

If you’ve ever looked at a piece of contemporary art and thought ”…am I missing something?”

You’re among friends.

This one was a little different from my usual projects.

A pair of returning clients—husband and wife—asked me to create a completely one-of-a-kind leather cuff and matching earrings inspired by the creativity, freedom, and bold spirit of Burning Man.

I started with the design, developed the details, added the pyrographic work, and eventually watched the individual pieces come together as a set created specifically for them.

And yes… I once again forgot to film WAY more of the process than I actually captured. 😂 When I’m deep in the creative zone, apparently remembering to turn on the camera is asking too much.

But I’m happy I documented enough to share a glimpse of the journey—from the initial design to the finished pieces.

That’s one of my favorite things about custom work: there isn’t a template, a production line, or another one waiting on a shelf.

There is only the idea, the craftsmanship, and the person I’m creating it for.

Thank you for following along as I continue exploring all the different ways I can make something beautiful with my hands.

What would you commission if you could have something made completely from scratch, just for you?

08/11/2026

There I was… completely lost in the process of creating, and once again I realized I forgot to turn the camera on. 😂

As artists and makers, we’re constantly being encouraged to document everything—the process, the progress, the behind-the-scenes moments.

But sometimes I’m so completely immersed in what I’m creating that the very last thing on my mind is picking up my phone and pressing record.

And honestly? I don’t think I’m the only one.

If you’re a painter, maker, designer, leatherworker, or any kind of creator, do you find yourself doing the same thing?

I’d genuinely love to know I’m not alone.

I’m trying to find the balance between creating the work and creating content about the work—and sometimes the art wins.

Thanks for being here and following along—not just for the finished pieces, but for all the wonderfully imperfect moments in between.

Creators: please tell me I’m not the only one.

Apparently I’ve been doing this whole art thing WAY too hard. 😂

All these years of learning composition, color theory, technique, perspective, light, texture…

When apparently I could have just thrown my paint brushes at a canvas and then written a deeply existential artist statement about what it means.

😂

Before anyone comes for me… I actually love abstract art. Art doesn’t have to look like something to be meaningful, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with finding your own interpretation in a piece.

But sometimes…

sometimes a blob is just a blob.

And sometimes an artist statement has more layers than the painting. 😂

Just having a little fun with one of my favorite absurdities of the art world.

Now excuse me while I go back to actually painting. 🎨

Some days I create.

Some days I simply stop and admire what I’ve already created.

Today is the second kind. 🌸

There are paintings you finish and move on from… and then there are the ones you keep finding yourself looking at.

This peony is definitely one of those for me.

This video isn’t about a painting.

It’s about a person.

From the windows of my studio, I often see an elderly gentleman walking through our neighborhood. We don’t really know each other, but I’ve learned enough to know the kind of heart he has.

Every day, he carries carrots to feed the neighborhood bunnies. He leaves food out for stray cats. During Colorado’s cold winters, he even makes sure they have a warm little shelter.

I’ve only spoken with him a handful of times, but every time I see him, it reminds me that kindness doesn’t have to be loud to make a difference.

On difficult days, seeing him quietly caring for the creatures around him somehow makes the world feel a little brighter.

As artists, we’re always searching for beauty.

Sometimes it isn’t found on a canvas.

Sometimes it’s found in the everyday actions of ordinary people with extraordinary hearts.

If this little story made you smile too, I hope you’ll pass a little kindness on to someone else today.

A quick update from the studio…

Over the past few days, I’ve been working through a few unexpected bumps while sharing my work online. After appealing the decisions, one of my videos has already been restored, and more importantly, I now have a much better understanding of what caused the issue in the first place.

That’s part of building something from the ground up. Every challenge becomes another lesson, and every lesson helps me move forward a little wiser than before.

The good news?

Nothing changes where it matters most.

Tomorrow, and every day after, I’ll be back in the studio creating.

There are new leather projects on the horizon, a custom commission already underway, a bucket bag waiting its turn, more paintings filling my sketchbooks, and plenty of stories still waiting to be told.

Thank you for being here through every chapter of this journey. Whether you’ve been following since the first peony brushstroke or you’re just discovering my work today, I’m grateful you’re here.

Here’s to turning setbacks into stepping stones. I’d love to know—what’s something you’ve learned from a challenge that made you better at what you do? Share your story in the comments.

Just when I thought I knew exactly what I’d be creating next… the studio had other plans.

I was ready to dive into a leather bucket bag that’s been living in my sketchbook for quite some time, but then I received a call from two wonderful returning clients with a very special request.

They’ve asked me to create a one-of-a-kind leather cuff and matching earring set inspired by the spirit, creativity, and bold expression of the upcoming Burning Man festival.

How could I say no?

One of my favorite parts of being a multimedia artist is never knowing exactly where the next project will lead. Every commission brings a new challenge, a new story, and another opportunity to create something that exists nowhere else.

The bucket bag isn’t going anywhere—it’s simply waiting its turn.

And honestly… I can’t wait to bring you along for both journeys.

This video is a little different.

For months, I’ve shown up every single day, sharing my work and inviting you into my creative world. Like many independent artists, I’m learning how to navigate social media while trying to build a business around the things I love to make.

Recently, one of my posts was flagged because I shared where people could purchase my artwork and handcrafted leather goods. It was discouraging—but it also reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.

I’m not trying to become an influencer.

I’m trying to become a full-time artist.

I don’t have a marketing team, a big advertising budget, or a viral strategy. What I do have are paintbrushes, leather, sketchbooks, ideas, and the determination to keep creating.

So tomorrow, I’ll be back in the studio.

I’ll keep painting.
I’ll keep designing.
I’ll keep making.

Because that’s who I am.

If you’d like to support my work or follow along as I continue this journey, I’d be honored to have you here.

One finished painting doesn’t mean the creative journey is over.

It means it’s time to turn the page.

I’ve had a few ideas quietly waiting their turn, and now it’s finally time to bring them to life. My next project takes me back to leather as I begin designing a bucket bag that’s been living in my sketchbook… and in my imagination… for quite a while.

I’m also excited to recreate a beautiful Doèn-inspired dress, combining the fashion design foundation that first brought me into the creative world with the craftsmanship I still love today.

And don’t worry… those blank canvases in my studio aren’t staying blank for long. There are plenty more paintings waiting to find their way into this growing collection.

Thank you for following this journey with me. Whether it’s paint, leather, or fabric, my goal is always the same… to create beautiful things and share the story behind them.
