*THE COMMITMENT* Believing that purity is about more than just not having s*x, PurityPeople have made a commitment to the following areas of purity: HEART. MIND. BODY. HEART. Waiting on God’s Timing for Romance Proverbs 4:23-”Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” I Corinthians 7:32-35- “But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord–how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares about the things of the world–how he may please his wife. There is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world–how she may please her husband. And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.” We have chosen to save our hearts for our future spouses. We’re waiting on God’s timing for romance and are committed to serving God until that time comes. This means that we’re not currently romantically pursuing someone but instead are cultivating friendships with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We believe that if God wants us to have a spouse one day, He will make it crystal clear when the time has come to be in a relationship with that person through prayer, counsel, and Scripture. Instead of engaging in frivolous relationships we’re waiting for the right person to be in a serious, committed, marriage-minded relationship with. We’re doing this because we know that only God knows who we will marry one day (Jeremiah 29:11-13), we understand that all good gifts come from Him (James 1:17), and we believe that He will work out all the details (Psalm 138:8) in His way which may vary for each of us. In this particular season of singleness in our lives, we’re focused on BECOMING Cinderella or Prince Charming rather than LOOKING for him or her. MIND. Replacing Lustful Thoughts With Good Ones Phillipians 4:6-8-”Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” We believe that in God’s eyes, mental purity is just as important as physical purity. Therefore, we try to guard our minds from things that might spoil our mental purity by being careful what we think about, what movies we watch, how we look at people of the opposite s*x, etc., and work at replacing lustful thoughts with good ones. BODY. Abstinence Ephesians 5:3-”But among you there must be not even a hint of s*xual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” We are committed to living purely by saving s*x for marriage and making sure there is “not even a hint” of s*xual immorality among us. It’s not about, “How far can I go and still technically be a virgin?” but “How close can I get to God’s standard of absolute purity?” We may or may not actually be virgins, but all of us have made the commitment to save s*x for marriage from here on out, realizing that God offers full and complete forgiveness for past mistakes if we will just ask Him (I John 1:9). Modesty (Girls) I Timothy 2:9-10-”…Women adorn themselves in modest apparel with propriety and moderation…which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.” We have chosen to dress modestly because we realize it affects how we represent Christ and the thoughts of guys around us. It’s possible to dress stylishly while being modest, although it is hard sometimes. We don’t believe that modesty means you have to wear dresses down to your ankles or collars up to your neck- you CAN be stylish- but as Christians, it’s important to be very careful to make sure our clothes don’t cause our brothers in Christ to stumble.
