The carload tells the story.

Professional organizing is not just making a space look better.

It is the decisions after the decisions.

On this day, the car was packed with items all going in different directions.

Boxes for Habitat for Humanity.
Papers that needed to be shredded.
Kids’ shoes that had been washed and were headed to Da Slippah Library.
Food items going to Maui Food Bank.
Bird feed going to The Pet Shop.

This is a big part of the work that happens after a home, garage, office, or storage area gets cleared.

It is not just, “take it away.”

Does this need to be shredded?
Can this be reused?

Decluttering with purpose.

During a kitchen clean-out for a family, I came across a large collection of beautiful food storage containers.

They were matching, useful, in great condition, and way too nice to throw away.

Anyone who cooks for other people knows the container struggle. You send someone home with food, they want to return the container, you tell them not to worry about it, and half the time you never see that container again.

So when I saw these, I immediately thought of Jay❣️

Lori prepares and delivers food to people who need support. Having extra reusable containers means she does not have to buy as many disposable ones, and the person receiving the food gets more than just the meal.

They get a nice container they can keep, reuse, or fill with food and pass on to someone else.

That makes sense to me.

One kitchen had more containers than it needed. Lori could put them to work right away.

This is part of what happens behind the scenes with A Honu Space. It is not just clearing things out. It is paying attention, knowing the community, and helping useful items land where they can serve again.

Useful things should keep serving people.

We all know kids grow fast. Shoes can fit one month and be too small the next. Half the time, they outgrow them before they even wear them out.

A client had children’s shoes that still had life left in them, so instead of sending them to the trash, I sorted them, washed them, and took them to Da Slippah Library.

Swapping, donating, and repurposing kids’ shoes is such a practical way to keep usable items moving through the community.

Decluttering is not just about getting things out of a house. It is about making thoughtful decisions about where those items go next.

What can be reused?
What can be donated?
What can help another family instead of ending up in the landfill?

These shoes no longer served the home they came from, but they still had a purpose.

Kids do not stop needing meals just because school is on break.

Monday, July 27th was my final summer delivery for the ʻAi Holo program with Maui Food Bank, and I wanted to share a little more about what was inside these boxes.

There was fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, milk, pantry items, and local produce from Maui farms.

These deliveries matter.

For families, a box like this can mean one less thing to worry about during school break. It can help make sure kids have healthy food available at home. It can also connect local farms, local organizations, and volunteers in a very practical way.

This is the kind of community care I believe in. Not complicated. Not fancy. Just people showing up, following through, and helping food get where it needs to go.
